stupidest regs

The barbed broad head thread got me thinking about some of the stupid regulations that are out there or have been .
what is the dumbest reg you state has or had in your opinion.?
Mine use to require you to put your name and address on the arrow but they did away with that. yea like poachers would
put there name on it

We have to shoot 6 grains per pound of draw weight. (That means 420 grains at 70#)

We aren't allowed to use mechanical broadheads.

We aren't allowed to use broadheads with serrated blades. (Magnus Stinger Buzzcuts)

We can't use lights on our sights.

We can't use Lumenocks.

We're only allowed one deer per hunter, per year.

We can bait deer and elk, but not bear.

I could keep going, but...

One deer per year? Yikes! Maybe Virginia is not so bad after all.

In our team thread Southdakotahunter was saying how the max cutting diameter he can have is 1 7/8. Do they not want you to be able to kill deer quicker and more humanely???

I feelfor you too Dan, one deer per year?? Only bait certain species? where do they come up with this stuff???

Finch 09-07-2008 08:16 PM

RE: stupidest regs

Dan...maybe I shouldn't say what Virginia allows but I'll say it anyway.;) We're allowed six deer per year, three of those are either-sex tags. We can also buy unlimited "bonus" tags for does. I feel for you man. That's rough.

maryland is the same way.. we can bait deer but not bear. maryland thinks if they kill 50 bears a year in 2 counties there keep the population in tact... theres so many damn bears runnin around now its sick.. but the dnr says there isnt any.. wait til they hit DC an baltimore then they'll want every damn bear in 3 states shot!

You can bait bear, but if you bait deer you have to be 800 yards away
Only one deer alowed in my "Game Hunting Area (GHA)"

In PA all traces of any sort of a "baiting substance" must be completely gone 30 days prior to the opener.

x2. I was just thinking the same thing. The baiting rules are weird in that you cant bait during the spring or summer, but can during the season. But then again, I dont bait in the first place so it doesnt really effect me.

In Louisiana they changed the Muzzleloader season to "Primitive season", now instead of a muzzleloader you can get a single shot 45-70, 444, and any other caliber larger than 38 that was created before 1900. So now any tom dick and harry can hunt primitive weapon season with a rifle. Makes no sence...

i fell good about indiana now.
Not sure which one is the worst here. i would say the fact you must by a license for each derr you buy 25 each for your normale license and 25 for the first bonus anterless and 15 for the rest.
But we can kill 7 deer in my county and the next county i can get 8 more and if i went county to county i could kill more then 300 does

no doubt i loved it when i lived there though the 100 to 150 pounds of corn a week i had out in one spot got costly.
If i move again it will be back to ky.
You get good hunting laws good fishing laws and you can carry a pistol on your belt without a ccp

Wow, that is dumb!!! In Oklahoma we can take two bucks and 4 does. I can't imagine only getting to take one deer. Do you travel to other states to hunt?

I'm sorry, but one deer wouldn't cut it for me. After I killed the first deer I would feel elated and then really sad that my season was over. :)[:@]

No Sunday hunting. No shooting an animal from a canoe or kayak with archery tackle....I think that would be alot of fun to try.

minnesotadeer 09-08-2008 07:42 AM

RE: stupidest regs

We are only allowed one deer per year now too in pretty much the southern half of the state because they claim numbers are down substantially. It was just in the paper this past weekend that statwide, about 62,000 some archery hunters took about 24,000 deer, giving bowhunters a success rate of just over 24 percent. Compare that to gun hunters who took 216,000 plus deer with a 37 percent success rate. Instead of complaining about it, I actually approached the Big Game director via e-mail, asking if they'd consider allowing bowhunters a buck and doe tag, so they could still only take one doe for population management purposes. I used the reasoning of the lower success rate and that the influx of new bowhunters due to this change would be minimal - and that the DNR always has the freedom to change it back if they feel it causes problems. He said they'd consider it.

T zones and youth hunts in wisconsin. two weekends of my season are interupted by gun doe hunts one in october and one in december and then the weekend before the doe gun hunt in october is a statewide gun youth hunt that bowhunters need to wear blaze orange. grrr oh and earn a buck sucks especially in cwd zones where they want all deer dead.

Personally, I would appeal to their wallet. I would tell them the extra doe tags would greatly increase their revenue and keep the population in check. I hope you get them to change their minds.

No Sunday hunting kills me here in PA. I live two hours from my camp and my job doesn't permit me to get out during the week to the local state gamelands (due to my hours). I'm a weekend hunter limited to 1 day a week!

in ohios regulation book it says no EXPLOSIVE TIPPED OR POISON TIPPED arrows.Who the heck would do that?we can take 1 buck and 6 or 7 does i think. We can hunt sundays thank goodness. Our Archery is september 27 to febuary 2 if i remember right.theres no limit on broadheads.Except they have to have at least 2 blades.

No Sunday hunting is far and away the dumbest still in effect.

This just passed recently but was the dumbest law I could ever imagine. In PA we used to have to stop hunting at sunset. Which I’m sure as most of you know, it can still be quite light at that time. I honestly doubt anyone followed that rule, and I knew guys who would be put thru the ringer or even ticketed by a WCO for coming out of the woods too late.

NY got rid of that dumb no Sunday law many years ago thank goodness. I would have to say the worst is the dawn and dusk thing, I wish we had the 1/2 hour before and 1/2 hour after sunrise/sunset. Besides that just the antler reg zones. I have nothing against letting the young deer live and manage the herd for better age structure but all 3 point antler regs do is highgrade to the detriment of the whole herd. Half ass as usual here where they act first and think later when it is too late.

In IL it's illegal to shoot a coyote (or any other fur-bearer) while you're in a treestand. (or even if you're on the ground but carrying a treestand or even just carrying a pair of pruning shears or a saw)

IL is required by law to offer 25,000 Non resident hunting licenses for sale. There is no requirement to offer any resident licenses. [:-]

We have no legal ability to recall our crooked[insert expletive]governor.
