DT, do you have an idea who the thieves are? If so, why not confront them face to face.Try persuading them into changing their ways. But be careful, it's not worth getting shot over. Communication is vital, as you mentioned they may not be aware you're allowed in there so a simple, non-threatening conversation would be a start.

Even if you don't know them, perhaps you could do some asking around and find out. The camera idea mentioned before isn't bad either. A local bow shop around here got pics of someone stealing their feeders and they blew up the picture and posted it in their shop.

Ant, it really sucks that you had your stuff stolen and I hope that you find who did it and when you do you put a thumpin' on them that they won't soon forget, but this booby trap thing can only end badly for you. Assuming you don't go to jail you can get sued. Having your wages garnered for the rest of your life because of some douchebag as definitely not worth it.

I urge you to rethink this. Hell I'd be willing to come over and help you figure out a way to catch the guy, but I'm afraid if he falls, you are the one that will be sorry.

Seriously, consider the consequences. Adapt and overcome.

That is the problem with society today. The "Crooks" think no one will do anything in fear of being sued.

In the overall scheme of life.....what these guys are doing is probably well down the list of the law enforcement agency's agenda. Let's be real, here.....they are NEVER going to catch them all....all the time. I've got a local problem with paochers/trespassers....and I've learned it's just GONNA continue to happen. Period. Best I can hope for is to thwart it "some". I don't really expect the sheriff to post a man in the woods I hunt 24/7/365. Not practical.

Does it suck? Yeah. Can it be eliminated? No. Do we become vigilanties because of it????????? Where does it end? Someone being hurt? Killed?

And again I ask.....

Over what? A DEER?????????????????????
C'mon now, these aren't just deer. we're talking about bucks, and some of them are big bucks !

I think he should just go in a couple of days before the opener and shoot all of his big bucks then. I mean, these other guys are just gonna trespass and get them so he should get them first.

Nothing is worth someone potentially getting seriously hurt....

If it were me, I'd actually put a note on my stands themselves...

Something like:

"DO NOT TAKE ORMOVE THIS STAND, I have permission to hunt this property! Any questions call999-9999"

Maybe you'll actually meet whoever is doing it - who knows - could be just a big mis-understanding.....

So you think he should have the guy fall 15' and risk possible paralysis or death? There is a right and wrong way to handle any situation. I'm pretty sureI'm in the majority thinking this is not the right way.

Punji sticks would take the risk out of the equation.

Your United States Marine Corps training will keep you out of jail, won't it?

Keep you from being sued?

Keep the tresspassers from hurting themselves badly or worse?

Seriously?

If you really think its funny that the guy could get hurt, I don't even know what to say. Yeah, I can understand being pissed off because your stuff is getting stolen when you have every right to be there, but come on...
Right on Wash. I have had a camera stolen in the past three weeks, I didn't rig up a minefield around the replacement. Patrol more, catch the SOBs, call DCNR. It sucks, but you need to value YOUR future as well as these idiots. You love this game, right? Stay in it, not in jail.

No, I don't think this crook should be paralyzed or killed butI think he should feel he is putting himself at "Risk".

X1000. Seriously. Like Jeff said, put this in PERSPECTIVE! This is deer hunting. Yes, trespassing is a crime enforced by the law like any other, so I don't condone it. However, it's not even close to justifiable to booby trap, hurt, or threaten people because of it. You will only end up worse because of it. It has nothing to do with society going soft, and criminals getting better treatment than the victims (although I agree that is happening in this country), but it has everything to do with BEING THE BETTER PERSON. Approach the situation with a level head, not a vengeful attitude.
