In my experience, a deer shot through the chest with a broadhead lives about 5-10 seconds. However far they run in that 5-10 sec.'s is how far you track them. If you don't hit a rib and they don't know they've been shot. They'll spend that time standing around trying to figure out what happened.

the average is 40-80. but if they are hurt to bad or stunned they will tend to bolt and run further. when i do not hit a bone or anything they only make it about 40 yards and look around as if asking what bit me. then they fall over and thats it.

It really is amazing how quickly they expire with a good hit. last season 4 out of 5 were dead within 35 yards. The best one did one good bolt and fell over dead as a stump within 15 yds.Number 5 was not a good hit and the deer was never recovered.

I have averaged 40-50 yards over the years. The last two yearshave been alot shorter. 5 deer and an average of about 25-30 yards.
If you are absolutely still and do not move after the shot, your tracking jobs will be alot shorter.

Last yearItook a doeopening day of bow anda buckopening day of gun.My blind and my stand are in the same 50 yrd. area. I followed the same blood trailon the twoand both of'emlayed at the base of a downed tree about 60 yrds. to the east.Had a buddy with me that helped track both of'em. We couldn't beleive it. There was still blood from my bow kill when we got to the buck. That was crazy.
