RE: Can "Hunting" be defined?

What was the question again? I'm still laughing at the Reno remark. I don't think high fence hunting is really hunting, I think that is just shooting and killing. Just my opinion. To be honest, I don't see how me driving 10 hrs to another state that I have never stepped foot in, buying a license, paying 3-5 thousand dollars to an outfitter, waking up the next morning and climbing into his box stand or tree and shooting a 200"+ deer is hunting either. Again, just my opinion.

I assess the situation, my heart tells my head and my head send a message to my trigger finger. I pray the take expires quickly. When it's fair, I know. When it’s not, I also know. The meat tastes the same either way. I do not and will not compete with you-that I promise (it would take the fun out of my hunting). Likewise, you should not compete with me. So why am I a threat?

I am a hunter-there is no denying it! I am also a shooter; I trap; I employ rocks; I use knives or whatever means available. I kill animals (I also conserve and preserve them-the epitome of a love/hate relationship)! I stack the odds in my favor. I take[/b] advantage[/b] whenever I can. There is nothing truly fair about it! It is my[/b] way! Why? Hell, I do not know. Maybe it’s the result of a deep rooted trick innately given to me by my ancestors- those folks who slaughtered animals by running them off cliffs. Maybe it's because I'm too slow and unable to catch things with my bare hands.

I am ok.

I walk into the woods with my bow and shoot game that is legal, using legal methods...hunting.

The difference between the two of us is, I chose to rise to the highest of legal & ethical standards and you seem hell bent on defending the lowest.
No, Jim....the REAL difference between you and I is.....I choose to allow each hunter to define for himself what he thinks hunting is. You think you're morally and ethically superior to anyone who doesn't do it "your way". And if that wasn't enough....you want toreserve the right to publicly humiliatethe "other guy's"choice.

Kinda reminds me of the 6th grade "jocks" making fun of the fat kid.....in a twisted kinda way.;)

ORIGINAL: JESUS loves archers

The term "Fair Chase" shall not include the taking of animals under the following conditions:
[ol][*]Helpless in a trap, deep snow or water, or on ice.[*]From any power vehicle or power boat.[*]While confined behind fences as on game farms, etc.[*]By "Jacklighting" or shining at night.[*]By the use of tranquilizers or poisons.[*]By the use of any power vehicles or power boat for herding or driving animals, including the use of aircraft to land alongside or to communicate with or direct a hunter on the ground.[*]By the use of electronic devices for attracting, locating or pursuing game, or guiding the hunter to such game, or by the use of a bow or arrow to which any electronic device is attached.[*]Any other condition considered by the Board of Directors as unsportsmanlike[/ol]

So, does that mean no rangefinders, no red dot sights and no lighted nocks?
Nope. Red dot sights, maybe, but the rangefinder isn't attached to the bow and doesn't locate the deer. Also, my lumenocks are electrical, not electronic. Same with thelighted sights. Electrical, not electronic. Big difference.

3. While confined behind fences as on game farms, etc.

Now I love the way that's worded.... as it should be. It sort of leaves the door open to debate.

I used to believe that there was no such thing as "a stupid question".

Now I am contemplating that.

Got a pot stirrer in every crowd. Like Mauser said, hunting is in pursuit of; or in search of. The hunting experience and what is acceptable and what is not is left up to the individual hunter and the state/country in which they reside. If I don't agree with someone on what an ethicalhunting experience should be I will debate that subject with them, but just because I go hunting does not mean I am killing a deer in either an ethical or non-ethical manner. It only means I am out there looking for the prey.
