Early season calling
#1
I know its been talked about, with it going about 50%-50% using any calls early in the season. This is my only hang-up and stress factor going into the stand in early October.
Is it affective to grunt, can bleat, or even rattle this early in the season. Its way before pre-rut or when any mating will happen, so whats everyone doing?
Should I not have this kind of anxiety about a call to use, or should I just plan on seeing what works?

I do call during the early season, I just don't use the agressive techniques that are used during the pre rut or rut...
Bucks and does will come in to a doe bleat...I've also called bucks in with a short, one syllable grunt, more of a contact grunt than the agressive, longer drawn out grunt...

I rattled last year and it seemed to make the bucks in my area curious. This of course depends on B/D ratios and region of the country your in. I don't grunt much unless there is a buck visible to me out of range. Just haven't had much success with bleats or grunts.

Whatever call you decide to try...use it sparingly. You don't want to educate them early in the season, that will make it real tough to have much calling luck during the rut.

Wow, if you stress out this easily, you better keep a good monitor on your BP
I wouldn't worry about calling much in early october. A few doe bleats here and there won't hurt anything. The lightest antler tickling is a common occurance too with little bucks dinking around that time of year. Other than that, just chill and enjoy the hunt.
