RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
ORIGINAL: GMMAT Like I originaly stated I`m hitting a little 2 inch bullseye at 70 yards with the fbh now,so I really hate to go messing with the bow at this point ......the fact that you're hitting your target from ANY distance only tells me you've masked a serious tuning problem. You're nicer than I am, I'll go ahead and get it out..... I DO NOT believe you went from hitting that poorly to that well at that distance. Furthermore, I've shot with some DAMN good archers, and I KNOW for a fact they don't shoot that well, even with FP's, so here's my take.....somebody ain't following his WWJD!!!! ![]() |
RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
hmmm...I would have to say iether the fp`s were not 100 grain (which is entirely possible due to the fact that I have so many laying around I may have had 85`s on there or something) or my theory of cutting more wind slows down the bh some more than others I`m sure.Again think of an extreme-the same weight bh 1 being 3/4 inch and one being 3 inch.I`m using 100 gr. NAP razorbak 1 -1/8 inch cd
ORIGINAL: GMMAT Let me ask you something...... Explain to me WHY they were hitting "differently" than your FP's....when everyone is telling you that it's impossible for that to occur WITHOUT a tuning issue being present (especially to that magnitude). |
RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
Not a tuning expert by any means but sounds like that is your problem to me as well. I used to paper tune my bows and call it good. I ran into the same issues that you are having. My last bow shooting bullet holes at 5, 10 and 20 yards. Grouping FP's at 60 yards. Put a Slick Trick on, 8 inches left two inches low.
With some help from this site and some studying I switched tuning methods. Walk back tune and then broadhead tune. Since doing this I've not had problems getting ST's, Muzzy's and Thunderheads to all fly the same and impact with my FP's. It takes time and patience but IMO is far better than just a paper tune. The bow in question above, I went back and shot through paper after I walk back tuned and BH tuned. Had a bad tear. I re paper tuned the bow to shoot a bullet hole. Put a ST on and 8 inches left and 2 inches low. I know there are die hard paper tuners out there but I haven't had great luck with the method. I see it as a starting point not an ending point. I no longer even shoot through paper. I start with a walk back and go from there.I'll also say that regardless of what the manufacturer claims, No fixed blade head will shoot like a FP out of an improperly tuned bow. |
RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
Unless your arrows are in the same vertical plane.....and off 7" in THAT regards....."I" can see NO REASON why they would be "off" otherwise by simply changing tip weight.
Edit** I'm acting under the assumption that your arrow is spined correctly (or will handle)for either tip weight. |
RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
I`ll have toexperiment withwalk back by the sounds of it,I know for me it won`t be until after hunting season though now that I`m happy with the way it`s shooting, also may try these slick tricks to keep the fps up at longer distances

I`m using GT 7595`s with 74 pound dw @ 28 1/2 dl

RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
Like I said....I have no idea if the difference in tip weight would affect your spine.....but either way...you're telling me you're getting NO fishtailing. So....going on your word....I'm assuming your arrow has got plenty of ass to handle the spine issues.
No. 1 - I can't fathom the difference in anything other than a vertical plane difference switching from lighter to heavier tip weights (if everything you're telling me about arrow flight is correct). No. 2 - I can't fathom going into the woods with the "band-aid" you just put on a gaping wound. You asked....we told you. Good luck. |
RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
Oh boy it`s gettin deep
Well I sure hope my gaping wound of a bowtech old glory hitting dot`s from 70 is enough to do the trick, good luck to us all if it`s not. RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
Maybe it's not a bow problem. Maybe it's an ARROW problem. Have you tuned your arrows to your broadheads? Do they spin w/ no wobble? How old are your arrows? Is it possible that the spine is gone? Have you used a G5 ASD to square the end of the arrow and insert? Are you blades aligned w/ your fletching?
Your bow could be perfectly tuned, but if your arrows aren't.....You may as well pee into the wind my friend..... |
RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
Jesus:
What you're failing to acknowledge is......that you're giving up some potentially SERIOUS KE by virtue of your bow no tbeing in tune, properly (and based on what you've told us.....and exemplified by the DRASTIC differences in POI between BH's and FP's).....you're not getting the maximum out of your setup. So....you've basically (referring back to another post) but a band-aid on a gaping wound. I don't really care if you're hitting your bullseye or not. The HOW most definitely is important....and the ends does NOT justify the means. Again....you asked. |

Let me ask you this.......If you already know the answer, why are you asking? And yes, tip weight does affect spine. Heavier tip = weaker; lighter tip = stiffer. |
RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
Actually the blades on these bh`s spin freely, the arrows were new last year,I wraped and fletched them myself,I doubt if the spine is gone, they`re golt tip expadition hunters with blazer vanes,no on the g5,no on the wobble.

RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
I have spent about a week an a half in my struggles to find the same thing. Bh's that fly like fps... no luck. I have decided to go with the grim reaper expandablethey cut on contact and are spring loaded.I tried the mx3's with absolutly no luck unless I could get the vanes to align with the blades, about 1/2 of the ones I bought do.

That`s why I chose the razorbak`s,the blades after tightening spin freely around, might want to check them out.

RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It`s not hard when you practice from 100 on a regular basis to make a shot from 70,I go out in the back yard take 2 -12 foot step ladders and a plank, stand in the middle and shoot at a 24 inch block,I do shoot 3-d turney`s but have only won 1,so no I don`t make a living at it but I do practice.

RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
I would say I`m happy with about 50% of my shots from bottom pin,you tend to shoot more carefully with bh`s on so you don`t break blades,in fact I take every arrow out that I shoot before shooting again.

RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
I`ll try the super powers of my new phone this afternoon and have my girlfriend record a couple shots then put it on youtube,We`ll see if I can bring this back up later with a link.
I must say though I`m sure there are alot of archers here that shoot from at least 70. [/quote] NO, I'M NOT KIDDING!!! Then again, I'm not really sure that statement should have come from you either. A .019 pin WILL COVER more than 2" at 70yds, and you say you're hitting a 2" bullseye at 70yds with a FBH, I'm impressed, because I'm not sure the BEST archer I know is that good, and he makes good money as a PRO staff shooter for Mathews Archery. NONE of the guys that were at the HNI NE GTG are that good, so your head and shoulders above ALL of them, so I'm impressed, because there were some DAMN GOOD archers there, and I was definitely in the BOTTOM of that group of guys there and by no means claim to be a GOOD archer. RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
I`m not sure I understand the question but If you mean why do I shoot from 100 ,the answer is to shoot better at 90,if you want to shoot better at 40 than quit shooting from 40 and go back to 50 or 60.

RE: broadhead that flies like a field tip?
Ah I see
I don`t shoot 100 yards at deer,I shoot 100+ at 3-d targets I would take a deer with my bottom pin if the situation was right that being 70 but I have a slider on my sights which I could adjust all the way to the danger zone were the fletch would hit the sight window ORIGINAL: Austin/WI ORIGINAL: JESUS loves archers I`m not sure I understand the question but If you mean why do I shoot from 100 ,the answer is to shoot better at 90,if you want to shoot better at 40 than quit shooting from 40 and go back to 50 or 60. |
