Got A Call Last Night ****New News****
Last night about 10:30 PM the phone rings. Getting a call at that time in the evening sends up alarms like someone is hurt or worse. I answered the phone and the guy on the other end says "I found out you have exclusive permission to hunt *****'s place." I said, "Yea, how can I help you?" His response was "We've been hunting that property for year's and I'm letting you know that we will continue to hunt there." I told him the owner said he has never given anyone else permission and was giving me permission to charge anyone else that trespassed. He told me that he didn't think I wanted to start something that him and his friends would finish.
This is the property where I flushed up 4 bucks within minutes of arriving to scout the property and saw a total of about 50 deer in the short time I was at the property. Going to be an interesting season....[:-] |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
IF anyone can handle it Mark, I know you can. I think maybe they don't know they bit off more than they can chew.;)
|
RE: Got A Call Last Night
I would be more than happy to come up and help you out(hang stands, cut trails, make salt licks, ECT.);) on the new property. They don't have a clue, Now that would be alot of fun.

RE: Got A Call Last Night
I think maybe they don't know they bit off more than they can chew. Good luck AF.. usually people who do things like this have more bark than bite.;) |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
Time to find out who these scumbags are AF. Nothing pisses me off more than when people mess with our Vets. Not sure if you got the number they called from or know who they are but finding out who they are without them knowing how is always a great way to even the plsying field. I wish IOWA was an over the counter state, I'd come out for a week or two and hunt with ya.;)

RE: Got A Call Last Night
I would call the Game Warden and tell him that not only were guys openly saying they were going to trespass but also threatened you. I am not one for lawsuits and calling the cops on small things, but this sounds like it could be nasty. I would call them and at least document the conversation that you and those idiots had last night. Call the landowner and let him know the exact details of the call and if he still says you have exclusive permission to hunt. I know in alot of places here in Virginia, the landowner will give you a "permission slip" of sorts with his name and yours signed on the document so that if you are confronted by a GW, you simply pull it out and show him. SCREW those guys.
|
RE: Got A Call Last Night
Hope it works out for ya man. I cant stand red neck punks like that.

But if this crack-head thinks this will work and he and his buddys will be able to just show up and hunt.:D:D:D "I don`t think so".... |

RE: Got A Call Last Night
This person had the foresight to block his telephone number, but other than torquing me off, I'm not worried about it. Anyone who makes a call like that and does not have the cajones to identify himself, already has a yellow streak running down the middle of the back. I know how to get the phone number if necessary. Wish I had some military simunitions, I'd have those guys creaming their jeans.:D
If I catch them on the property, all bets are off. Between myself and then the law, the movie Deliverance would seem like a dream come true for them! Just had to let some steam off this morning after that call last night. |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
Set a booby trap. A pit trap should work put a trail cam up over it also. MAke for some funny pics

RE: Got A Call Last Night
I remember you mentioning this property Mark, and the owner giving you exclusive hunting rights to it. Yes, it sounds like these guys are indeed scumbags. I wishI lived closer so I could help you out in giving these smacked asses a lesson in respect for others, and their properties.
I'd love, as I'm sure you would, to know how they found out you have hunting rights there, and how they got your phone#. Unless it's listed of course, in which case they know where you live.[:@]Either way, these pricks have some kind gall!! Isn't it always something? Man, I really wish I had some way to help you out with this, because it should be taken care of sooner rather than later.Keep us posted (no pun intended) on how this unfolds.;) |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
This is what they bit off.

RE: Got A Call Last Night
Talk to the land owner, he probably knows who they are, and probably gave you exclusive rights on purpose. Sounds like hunter harassment to me, maybe call to the game warden is in order.
Make sure you have permission to hunt there in writing and it states that only you are allowed to hunt there. They will obviously not have that documentation and they will be screwed. Paul |

RE: Got A Call Last Night
Well, to get to our property, first they have to drive by a dog run about 1/4 mile from the house where the dogs go beserk everytime someone passes either in a vehicle or on foot. Then there is my little buddy, Chantz, who is a trained guard dog (needed to have him for family safety in my previous line of work). Chantz is 90 lbs of pure "fun" for anyone who wants to get close. He starts barking at the sight of an unknown person vehicle. He was trained to approach both people and cars from behind and attack from behind. My property is posted accordingly to avoid liability. If they pull up and stay in their vehicle until the wife or I come out, they have no problems. If they get past Chantz, then my friends Benelli, Berretta, Springfield, Marlin, Winchester, Remington, and the foreign exchange student, SKS from Yugoslavia, will have their chance to greet them. At the other property, my professional permit keeps me company. No worries, be happy!

RE: Got A Call Last Night
I would definitely involve the Game Warden... not for your protection but for ALL that they can do. Here in MO it's permanently confiscate your weapon, vehicle and hunting license - all for life, if they choose. The less idiots like that in the field the better! I HATE hearing stories like this... makes me want to come out there just for the conflict!
|
RE: Got A Call Last Night
If and when the time comes that they do trespass, the conservation officer and sheriff's office will be the first responders for me. If they come onto my personal property and threaten ANY of my family (to include the dogs), the previously mentioned agencies will have to be the cleanup crew. Don't get me wrong, this area is full of great people, but inbred pond scum is pretty much everywhere you go.

Make sure you get a video if anything goes down, Good luck with this.

RE: Got A Call Last Night
If you have a concealed weapon carry it in with you. I always carry my glock 30 just in case I run into any punks. I would make sure you put up no trespassing signs on the property and bring your cell phone in case they do show up.
I just can't believe the nerve of somepeople, especiallyother hunters. |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
ALL you guys need to keep something in mind.....
SOme people have NO regard for human life or private property. They just aren't wired like "us". I talk a lot about the poaching neighbors I have. I even know in my mind that they stole a stand and a feeder from me, last year. If I saw one of them do it....I'd take care of it, myself. But....My wife and child sleep in the house with me.....and I could hit a driver and a 7 iron to their shack form my home. The truth of the matter is.......some people are warped. The "McPoachersons" (as I like ot refer to them) have a close family member that did some time for throwing a "cocktail" at someone's house. ONLY reason it didn't catch fire is.....the lit rag fell out. That's real. Just be careful. People are crazy. |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
I was told early in my military career, that if you underestimate your enemy, chances of survival or winning in combat will be greatly minimized. Whenever I have been in any conflict whether militarily or on the civil side, I look at the worst case scenerio and determine my reaction with that in my mind. However, I have noticed in the civilian sector, most people do not do that. If this situation should ever come to a head, I will be prepared, however I doubt that they would.
Reference concealed weapons. It is illegal to carry a firearm here while bow hunting. But, I always have one reasonably accessable. Reference cell phone: One of the first things I did when I purchased this place was add a speed dial for the local law enforcement and the DNR officer. I would recommend everyone do this. I put the speed dial number 7 for the Sheriff and 3 for DNR. 1 is for In Case Of Emergency, 2 is the wife, 4 my daughter, 5 my son, and 6,8, and 9 are my aunts (only one's left from that generation). |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
I was going to type something about the police and dnr dont take things into your own hands pal.
Make sure the place is heavily post with the no tresspass signs also. |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
Call them back with a tape recorder. Tell them that you are sorry that they are no longer able to hunt that piece of property because you have exclusive hunting rights. At that point he will probably go off. Then ask him very directly, "what did you mean by starting something I would not be able to finish?". AFter he threatens you again, say "surprise mofo you are on candid telephone!".

RE: Got A Call Last Night
I think taping someone on the phone without their knowledge is illegal and inadmissible in a court, unless you have a warrant to do so. So it may not do you any good other than letting the police know your not making stuff up. And from what I can tell your not the type they would discount easily.
Sounds to me like you got things covered though, I would just suggest you let the land owner know what is going on but you probably already know that as well. Good luck, let us know if anything comes of it. While there are a good share of nut jobs around most are just talk. Never hurts to be prepared though. Paul |

Like others have already said, make sure you post the property very well and be sure to talk to the property owner to make him aware of the situation...the legal authorities as well. Maybe the local game warden would be happy to keep an eye out near the property for these losers as well. |

i dont know why people have to act like that. If you find out who it was I think I would call the game warden and give him a heads up.

RE: Got A Call Last Night
Every state is different on recording phone calls and whether or not both parties have to have knowledge that it is being recorded. In Iowa, only one party has to know recording is taking place unless you have a State Title III court order. If he does call back, I will have to hit the record button on the answering machine.
I have never aimed a weapon at anything I did not intend to kill. To intend to kill another human being is not something to take lightly. Although, if I were in fear for my own or my families well being, I would not hesitate. I would not take matters into my own hands unless it was life or death situation. |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
Just simply call the DNR. Around here they take these things seriously and it would get sorted out.
As much as you say you would if you had too, im pretty sure you would rather not have to take it into your own hands. Let the DNR handle it. |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
That makes perfect sense Mark. My gun comment was just a general thought. To some folks it just sounds so easy to pull out a gun on some body. In todays world that can be as bad as not having one at all. I'm quite sure you would use your very best judgement in such a situation.;)
|
RE: Got A Call Last Night
No I wouldn't rather handle it myself. I have been in situations where it was mine or theirs and have been fortunate to always end up with the results favorable for me. It's something I live with every day of my life and have no desire to relive it if at all possible.

RE: Got A Call Last Night
Lord, I love suspicious wives!!!! Sitting here typing along and get a call from a woman who wants to know what her husband was doing calling my number last night. Wanted to know if I had a daughter in my life. I said, "No, I live here by myself why?" She then asked why I was talking to her husband at 10:30 last night. I looked at the caller ID and there was a name and number. I told her about the interesting call I had received and she yelled "Hank! Get your **** **** in here right now!" She told him about checking his cell phone to see if he was still messing around and came up with my number. She then called me and I told her what he had said to me. She went on to remind him how he wasn't a BMOC high school student and to grow ****ing up! She went on and on while I waited on the phone. She then told him to apologize to me and he did. After that, she got back on the phone and told me what her husband looked like and what he drives. Told me that if I even saw him in my area, call the cops and then call her. She would take care of the rest! Just before hanging up, she told him his hunting days were over and his days hanging out with his buddies were over too. I had to do everything I could to keep from laughing while I was on the phone (after Hank got his). I have his name, phone number, address, license plate number, description of his vehicle, and personal identifiers. He doesn't even live close to here, but his cousin who does has been trying to get permission to hunt that land for a long time and the owner always turns him down. The owner evidently told the cousin that he had given me permission and then looked me up.
Hank's in trouble, Hank's in trouble, ni ni ni ni boo boo. |
RE: Got A Call Last Night
Hank is about to find out why divorce is so expensive:D
|
RE: Got A Call Last Night
that was just awesome! I dont think you'll need to worry about hankany more.
|
RE: Got A Call Last Night
Awesome news Mark!! Just great. Like I said when you got the good news from the Doc, and the permission to hunt that new land, when it rains, it pours (old Morton salt commercial)!:D Next in line is that new job, I'm telling ya!.;)
