Would you sell your best rack?
A co-worker of mine shot a huge 7x5 a few years back. His biggest buck ever. Under a lot of disbelief, he chose to do a simple antler mount instead of a full head. Today as we were putting an addition on to a taxidermists home, he showed the picture to the taxidermist and he scored it at 168, but with deductions he said 153. Then it was brought up about the amount of money he could get from it off e-bay. I hope he's not considering it. Now to my question. Would you sell your best rack? And getting a replica of it is not an option. Just up and selling it. Or would that be something that is just irreplaceable?

RE: Would you sell your best rack?
I duuno about my best..but I sold a lot of scrub racks on ebaythat had been laying around camp for decades. These hobbiests, craft people, knife makers, went nuts for them.Although in hindsight I question the legalities of it.

RE: Would you sell your best rack?
I have all of mine, even a bunch of old sheds.;)
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
i would sell my largest rack in a heart-beat. The deer probably scored around 30-40" :D
If I shot a 170-180 class deer there is no way on earth I would sell it. |
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
I guess this all goes back to what's "good money" for someone...
I've seen what those racks bring on e-bay, and it's not near enough -- for me. The only way I'd do something like that wouldn't be possible in your hypothetical scenario, but I'd only do it if it was a world-class enough deer that Cabela's or Bass Pro wanted to purchase it for at LEAST $10,000 -- and then, only after a replica set of antlers was made to meet my approval and satisfaction. |
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
Oh. And I keep the cape, too.

RE: Would you sell your best rack?
Sure. Head...mount....whole thing.
'Course.....you're gonna need to sharpen your pencil. |
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
Not unless I was really hard up for money. So yes I guess so!
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
I like to say no, but money is money. I wouldn't do it for less than a fortune...in the same way that Greg H stated
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
no not at all i would never sell for any amount of money i think it would be irreplacable in my book

RE: Would you sell your best rack?
When did GregH post on this thread? ;):)
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
It depends on how much someone was willing topay for it. But if having a replica made is out of the question, it would have to be a boatload of $$$$$.:D
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
i would never sell my best buck
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
The Albia buck sold for 1.5 million. If I had a huge rack and a sporting goods store wanted to buy it, I would consider renting it at X dollars per year until they obtained a larger one. But outright sell it, I don't think so, but it would be hard to say for sure until the situation arose.
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
To "keep the farm", yes I would if that meant I had like a monster rack and sold it for thousands. That being said, I don't so I think I am safe from having to make that type of decision. I only started keeping the racks off bucks I have killed 5 years ago. The 10 years prior I just threw the antlers on out with the rest of the deer carcass. I really wish I would have kept alot of my other racks, but I didn't. Now I wouldnt throw one rack out to save the world.
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
If my kids were starving and I was about to lose my house, yes I would sell, but that's it.
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
So .....just so we're clear.....there's NO PRICE that could be offered to some of you that you would sell at......barring, of course, ahem......personal hardship????
Really?[&:] My deer are for sale. My house is for sale. My vehicles are for sale. My bows are for sale. My college scrapbooks are for sale. There is a price that my mounts would be sold at, also. Just to be clear. |
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
My hunting memories aren't for sale.

RE: Would you sell your best rack?
Nope ...... none. Their mine. I earned them. If I ever get to the point where its easy unuf to get big racks then I would look for new land to learn. BUT I would keep hunting my old land too;)
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
Lmao Robby!!
I'm not into that kind of stuff, a replica would mean nothing to me. There's allot of things that are always for sale for the right price, my animals/mounts are not one of them though. They mean to much to me. |
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
Schultzy--a genetic replica of Robby's wife would mean nothing to you? THEMS fighting words:

RE: Would you sell your best rack?
For enough money.....I'd sit on the beaches of Mexico for the next several years in my south of the border retirement home.
For enough money I'd hunt in KS, IA, IL and Canada every year if I so chose. For enough money....I wouldn't have to go to workanother day in my life ......unless it was 100% something I wanted to do, every day. For enoughmoney.....I could assure my son wouldn't have any worries in his lifetime. For enough money....I'd sell a lotof things. The deer headswould be on that"potential auction items" list. Different strokes, I guess;) |
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
and then, only after a replica set of antlers was made to meet my approval and satisfaction. Ditto. |
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
You're one of the few being honest, Jeff... or else some aren't understanding the potential of what you're saying. ;)
|
RE: Would you sell your best rack?
Even though I am extremely proud of all of the animals I have taken I see no reason to not sell them if someone came by offering the right amount of money. It is not like I am selling my memories of them, more like a memento of the occassion.

Amend,
I misread the damn thing. There is nothing I own that is not for sale for the right price be it bows, antlers, house, truck but it's my price and it'll afford me more opportunities to further my love of bowhunting, it's all good. |
