Deer hunting is tradition .. it is the smell of the biting fall as it creeps in after the summer ... it is the turning of the leaves, the falling of acorns .... it is the fellowship with family and friends, the excitement of conversation that has 100% of everyone;s attention....... it's the final planning to where everyone is going that morning ... it is walking in the dark to my stand, listening for deer that I may have bumped ..... it is the ascention up my steps to my seat in the tree that I will be hoping to ambush a deer from ..... it is the anticipation of what can happen at any second ..... it's the sunrise ...... it is the scurrying of squirrels as they hurry to prepare for the upcoming winter .... it is a hot cup of coffee on an ice cold deer stand .....it's the crunching of leaves as I hear the unmistakable sound of a deer walking towards me ..... it's the heart pumping out of my chest as a deer comes by ... it's the joy of watching those animals that will not bi in danger by my stand .....it's a deer that is a shooter to me, coming down the path I expected him to ...... it's the preperation for the shot as he walks into range ..... it's the pulling on the trigger ....release or gun .... it's watching the deer's ensuing fight for it's last breath ...it's the climb down and the wlking up to the deer.... it's the appreciation to a mighty God for allowing me to take all that I just posted in .... it's the phone call to the womenfolk and friends that couldn't be there, telling them what just happened it's the pictures afterwords and the dinner and discussion of the day's events ...... it's ALL that and more .......to me

Now Jeff, what is deer hunting to you?
2. Achieving my goals I set forth in the pre-season.
3. The owl I got to see. The fox. The raccoon. They all didn't know I was in their house.
4. Knowing I worked hard to know whereto be that day....and having confidence in my stand choice.
5. Knowing I don't need a light to get to where I'm going in the dark......and not using it if I have it.
6. Wondering why (although I know) it gets colder when it should be getting warmer as the woods come to life.
7. Hurrying to get home to tell Lisa of everything I saw.
8. Having a degree of pity for those who will NEVER see what's right out most of their back doors.
9. Watching a deer bed down in bow range and never reaching for the bow.
10. Calling my friends to tell them what "we" just killed.
11. Being able to recall the basic 3/3 time tempo of the 'Star Spangled Banner' as I type my response.

Seen alot of reasons to shoot fawns over the years and will give congrats to anyone who is happy with their kill.
As far as me shooting one after the great DNR deer massacre of northern Michigan, and knowing they are dirt dumb without their mother around, you would be more likely to see me shooting squirrels nests with a shotgun, stomping turkey chicks, or stuffing firecrackers up a frogs Ass. Its notgonna happen!

1. That moment when I reach my point of ascention and sit my ass in the seat. It's 5:00AM.....and I've got 1:45 to sleep....think about my family.....talk to my Lord....and enjoy the most relaxing time I've ever experienced.

Im not in this thread, but Im going to answer a question that I left unanswered with Jeff yesterday.
That's the #1 reason why I wanna spend $140 + gass to come hunt your little does. You are a friend... an Old grey headed friend but a friend
10. Calling my friends to tell them what "we" just killed.
