whatcha think about Ted Nugents shooting?
 

I love the nuge but He does`nt use sights,I saw him miss a nice buck from point blank range,prolly 15 feet,I`m a big pusher of the "practice from long ranges" deal so it`s a little aggitating to watch a bowhunter miss from 5 yards.
I love what he stands for and the time and effort he puts into our freedom but I really wish he would spend more time browsing over some sights.
Any compound shooters here not using sights?
I`m sure there are even some recurve and longbow shooters here that use sights,I don`t have them on my Damon Howat recurve but I dont hunt with it iether.

He's an average shooter at best. He huntes HF and/or his own compound (which is also HF, BTW). The deer on his property are tame to humans, that's how he is able to walk right up on them.

That said- he is a great advocate for our hunting rights. I don't see anyone getting up in the anti's faces the same way Ted does or with the same vigor.

I remember when he was on MTV cribs and he missed a deer on his indoor target range. Sights are helpful and I think people owe it to the deer to ensure a more accurate chance of making a vital shot.

how do you know his deer are tame to humans.
i saw the guy shoot a deer at 80 yards walking down a trail with no sights. to me that is a great shooter.

He is a terrible shot and I hate it when he makes a shot on TV and turns to the camera and says how perfect it was. Does he think I am stupid? I know where the heart and lungs are on a deer, as well as the shoulder blade. I know he does a lot for our sport, but IMO, he could do it a lot better job than what he does. He does a great job with his children's programs, but being a touch more tactful would go a lot further in helping to educate the non-hunting population. Okay, so that was all off point, he is a terrible shot!

With a bow I have never missed a deer in 20 years of bowhunting,I did brisket shoot one that bleed alot and got away but that with a recurve with no sights from 20 yards.
I`m no champion but I think if you bowhunt you should be a sniper.

Because I was on his compound for 10 days as part of the crew that shot the Reality TV show that he hosted. I personally walked up to deer & they fed out of my hand. Other crew members thought it was cool. I thought it was sad.

This does NOT make a person a great shot; what it shows is disregard for one's quarry and/or someone with poor reasoning skills.

Ted is probably in the bottom three of t.v. personalities with the worst shooting abilities, right there with Tom Miranda and Steve Stoltz, formerly of the Drury Bros. I saw that episode of Cribs referred to above, and I would have been apalled to let that episode air if the intent was to show off my shooting ability.

hes just a normal person like you and me who hunts. so what if hes a famous rockstar. that doesnt make him any better of a hunter than anyone. when i started out with my compound bow i didnt use sights. i could shoot really good to. almost as good as i do with sights. but i am def. going to keep sights on my bow

Just because you have sites on your bow doesn't mean you are going to shoot a perfect shot all the time. Too many factors come into play when shooting at a live target. You could shoot the best arrow of your life. But that doesn't mean you will makea good hit.

I saw him shoot his guitar and make it explode from across the stage in one of his concerts[:-]! Poor shot, i dont think so. If he can hit deer without sights, I would say he is a pretty good shot, even if he does miss sometimes.

i guess in a sense practicing alot with sights is foolish because we just miss anyways,it happens right?
Lets just say"theoreticly" Ted had sights and practiced alot with them from 75-100 yards,would he miss a 5yard shot because "it happens?"

i missed a 9 point last year i was shaking more thne the drier and he was 10 yards out in a open area

My bowtech with a 400 grain arrow would blow threw a buck so hard from inside 100 it wouldnt know what hit it right in the heart

I guess I don't see the same episodes you guys do. I've never seen him miss in the 10 or 15 episodes of his shows that I've watched. I've never seen him wound any either.

One of the few hunting shows I will turn off even when nothing else is on. I can't stand the way he talks about hunting. Seems like he is just killing most of the time and not hunting. I will give him this, he really does defend hunters rights on a national level, so for this he gets my backing.

Umm, i never noticed him shooting a bow without sites. I specifically remember seeing him using a pendulum site recently on a show. I have also only seen him miss a few times and MTV cribs was one of them.
