The Spine Shot
#21
I haveshot deerseveral times with a spine shot (basically about aunder 10 yrd shot with the deer facing you)and to me I see no problem with them. If you hit left or right you hit lung or heart or both. I have never lost a deer that I have shot this way. Now if they are too close it posses a problem and I will not shoot. I few comfortable doing this a practice this out of my stand at the house with my 3d target.

What really is the difference between a spine shot, lung shot, leg shot etc if the deer dies.... Do you hear what ur saying.
And no, I can't hear what I am typing.[8D]

I've made spine shots.
I've also unloaded my quiver, twice. I shoot 'til they're either out of range or dead.
I've heard them bawl at me after being shot.
Michael....I proved last season that the HNI communityisn't capable of handling such. I offered to chronicle every shot....good AND bad....and I remember where that got me.
From now on.....every kill I make will be just like every other cyber-kill........"double-lunger"
.

In my opinion, if you make a bad shot you should admit it, don't act like you made a great shot when you didnt.

they just stood there next to it while it suffered and gave a speech? yeah i have gotten a spine shot before and i felt so bad about it. i knocked another asap right when i saw my deer fall to the ground. i ran up to the deer and put another on in the head and then i had to put one more just incase. it is a horrible feeling. i dont see how anyone would try and take that shot. it is not fun. atleast it not as a bad as a leg or gut shot i guess.

I wonder if ants feel pain when I step on them?
I guess if we are worried about a deer feeling pain as it dies we should rifle hunt and drop them in thier tracks,IMO its not inhumane to just let a deer expire after any shot in the vital area as apposed to filling it with arrows.
Remember the good ol days when the PETA tree huggers would infiltrate this site for about a half hour before getting the boot?

I have spine shot a deer - my follow up arrow 20 seconds later quickly finished the job - but it didnt make me feel better about the original shot. A spine shot (below the neck) is not a directly lethal hit, the deer will die obviously, but it will die through shock and/or blood loss, not from a severed spinal cord. It is simple to me - I dont like killing period, so I want it to be over as quickly/painlessly as possible.
