Dear Mr. Speed Bow:

You're gonna have to be up over 320fps for me to put you in that category.
Agree. That's about where I make the distinction, personally.

Real simple question, I hope. What do you think constitutes a "speed bow"?
Not mine.. that's all I know.

An IBO of 320+ imo is considered a "speed" bow nowadays. When you get at or above 320,the cams and/or the bow designstarts getting more aggresive.

Hoyt has a "target" bow with an IBO of 313 fps.

A bow that you really do not need to hunt with. What is the point of 320fps and above in the woods?

The point is to add energy for penetration. You can shoot a "speed" bow with a really heavy arrow and have some devistating penetration.

I am looking for a bow that I can pull with my bad shoulder that shoots in the 320 + range so I can shoot low poundage and mid weight arrows and still have great penetartion. The HoytKatera XL offers that.I am looking at another option as well but probably won't fork out the money for either.

Also a flat flying arrow, I use 1 pin out to 45 yards.

Penetration-Smenitration. I say people have been doing this effectively for years with bows shooting a lot slower. But, I am fairly new (3 years), so what do I know?

I've only been doing this for 31 years and I am 36, its still nice to have a fast flat shooting bow. I have tried them all even like to shoot long bows. If I were shooting a lot of 3d targets I might change my set-up. But in the wood I like to have that one fast flat shot.
