Default How to create bedding areas on your property

GMMATS thread was excellent, and really got me thinking about doing something on my property.

I'd like to knowhow to create bedding areas. What makes a good bedding area? Where should it be located? How big should it be? What kind of cover do you need? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

As always, pics are worth a thousand words....

I am converting my 5 acres of CRP(fescue and orchard grass) into Native Warm Season Grasses next spring. This stuff grows 4-6 feet tall.Thats adding some bedding area.

Also cutting trees halfway thru and allowing them to fall over but still grow will create a jungle that the deer will live in.

Heck, on our farms, we just call the logger and let him take care of the rest...All of our farms have at least 3 bedding areas of 25-50 acres or so...We've also put some of our acreage in CRP land which is left for native plants to grow and is cut and disked in every 3 years...
