Default watch your card on your online buys

this is not a bow hunting issue but it effects bow hunters.
A neighbor i know a guy in his 70. bought some stuff on his credit card and i mean the old type not a debit card a real credit car.
And later got a bill for a pink/silver purse from england for 1100 bucks.
I helped him work it all out. He then got his bill and there was 4800 dollars in charge he knew nothing about.
there was even a charge for a earth link account someone set up and not even once used.
I think someone he bought stuff from sold his card number and the wrong person got a hold of it.

Watch your selfs when you buy stuff online even from some of the big hunting sites.

More than likely not running a firewall. Youd be amazed how many times I hear this. someone got my credit card number and its your fault, because we are their ISP. Sorry we have no control over what data you process out over the net. Get a firewall and buy online from trusted sites with the seal of approval and secure transaction certificate.

A firewall only does so much. It offers some protection while working behind it, but the software firewalls out there for home use are so easily defeated that they are practically pointless. Most identity theft occurs from either phishing, or the use of not properly secured E-commerce sights.

Never respond to an email asking for account information. If you feel the need to respond call a customer service number 9 times out of 10 it will be a bogus request. Also, only do online commerce with reputable sites that are properly secured. One of the industry standards is VeriSign. Look for this logo on the web site:

If you see that you can rest assured that it is a reputable and secure site. The biggest weapon you have against fraud is your common sense. If something just doesn't seem right, it usually isn't.

This happened to me two weeks ago. Luckily we caught it (My bank did) really quickly....with only $300 in charges made.

They had, not only my debit card number....BUT...they had the CVV code off the back of it. Someone either had to get this info.from an online purchase I made....OR....a waiter/waitress (someone who's held my actual card) had to steal the information.

No other explanation I can think of. I'm just glad we caught it quickly. It could have gotten REAL ugly.
