I would, any deer is good enough for me. I'd be happy to get a buck, any buck.

It would depend where I was hunting. In most of my hunting locations (in NC)I can nota buck must be 8 pt or bigger. I would have to be hard up to shoot him or have my son with me and let him bust him.......

Where I hunt in Michigan and on Public land in Illinois, without a doubt. Bow would be pulled or the Safety would be off the second I saw him.

That's a "self-imposed" or "private" rstriction, I'm assuming.

Kudos to you guys.

For a first buck, you bet. Today, just grab the binos and enjoy.

I would be torn what to do. Our goal is to grow bigger deer on our property so I don't think I would, but the short term regret would linger in my mind for a couple of hours.

RE: Be honest, would you shoot this buck?

It has been alot of years since I last killed a buck, and never with a bow. I have left similar ones like him walk even last season and will again this year. I am getting a little tired of eating tag soup though, so my standards my drop alittle if I don't kill any this year. I think that next year I would have to say yes I would shot him.

depends on the time of year... close to the end of season and still no meat in the freezer then he would be getting stuck with the G5's.

If it was a clean, easy shot and towards the end of the season then yes.

Same as some of the others, if it's down to the last chance to get a deer, & no meat in the freezer; you bet I'd take him. I hunt more for the food than for the horns. We eat 2-3 ea yr.

It would depend on where I was hunting. Around my house, ... Yes. In Ohio... wouldn't reach for the bow. Someone elses hunting club.... probably not.

RE: Be honest, would you shoot this buck?

I haven't been hunting all that long and my days in the field are limited. I've only shot three deer ever. First deer was a yearling buck. Then two does.

I would not shoot that buck even if was the last day of the season and I had not filled my tag. Why? Because I love to see big bucks and I know that the only way that there can be big bucks is if little bucks live. Of my 10 years of hunting deer, I have not filled my tag 7 times. Part of the reason is that my time in the field is limited by other obligations and hobbies (hard to believe but true, LOL). But part of the reason is that I keep letting little bucks walk. Some years, little bucks seem to be the only deer that are in range. But I don't "need" a deer that bad. AndI don't concern myself with what might be going on on the next farm over. All I can control is my actions. If the choice is me getting a deer vs giving a small buck the chance to grow up to a beautiful mature whitetail buck, I will choose the second option every time. :)

RE: Be honest, would you shoot this buck?

There was a time when I wouldn't even have to think about shooting,my bow would be in my hand and ready, now today I would really have to talk myself into shooting that buck.So to answer your question honestly I don't know what I would do it would really depend on how my season has gone and what frame of mind I was in when he shows hisself.

No could do.......... for my neck of the woods. But you do whatever you think is right- totally a personal decision and nobody should make that decision or influence it except you.

Have a good season,

rob

Definitely not. No mass, little incher brow tines.....let him grow. That would be a great first buck for somebody, but I myself wouldn't take it under any circumstances.

I would not shoot him. At least in my area. We are required to have 4pts to a side due to antler restrictions. If I was in another area which permited 3pts I would definately take the shot.

If i came over to hunt that area and he turned up , lets just say that his rack would be coming home with me . Unless you know there are bigger bucks in the area , i'd take him .
