I'm passing! I'd let him walk right under the tree. That might be a trophy deer to some hunters...and I think that's GREAT! But it's just not what I'm after!

Between NC and VA I get 5 buck tags so basically if I felt like shooting him on a particular day I would. I always have four other buck tags to "horn" hunt with.

Yes.....it is my first year of bowhunting and I would be more than happy with a deer like that.

Id be excited to see him, just as any other deer. But there's no way I'm sending an arrow his direction.

I'd pass only because I've seen bigger on the property I hunt. Nice young buck any how.

RE: Be honest, would you shoot this buck?

I personaly wouldn't ! I try to shoot mature deer regardless of there horn size to me a mature deer even if he scores under P&Y is a worthy adversary ! If i just want meat i shoot a doe ! But the trophy is in the eye of the beholder ! Two many times people get hung up on this got to kill a monster or nothing or there worried what everyone will think ! IMO harvest what you want and screw others views ! I was on several leases for years where it got so bad with all the rules and restrictions that it was not fun anymore because you didn't want to shot anything under the guidelines ! This Monster trophy mindset that is engrained in everyone is gonna be what ends hunting for the average joe !

I really appreciate the honesty from you guys. Looks like we have around 60 percent no, 40 percent yes....or maybe a little more no. He is a middle of the road buck......would be a cool sight in the woods.

no let him mature. the only way to get big bucks in your area is to let em walk. think of how he will be next season

i am torn.....i would if i was hunting on some public land, but if i am on a piece of private land.....i would just watch him....depends where i hunt and what i have been seeing

Also depends on where you are in your hunting life. PLENTY of people who say they wouldn't shoot him............have shot lots of small bucks in their day.;)

90% of the numbnuts in michigan would "if it's brown it's down" mentality.

I won't anymore, I would've a long time ago, but now i know better.
So just because they don't "trophy hunt", and don't have the same mentality as you, it makes them "numbnuts"?

interesting.

You are right there. I have shot many bucks smaller than that in my lifetime, so at this point in my life, I would probably pass. I do own my own property though, so I have the luxury of passing up some bucks that Iwould otherwise take.

bigtim6656 07-29-2008 09:30 PM

RE: Be honest, would you shoot this buck?

i think it all depends on how many deer you have killed how big the bucks where i see no reason to shoot a buck because he is a buckwhen you could shoot a doe and get better meat. I have seen a 11 point on the public land i will hunt. i would let him go untill late in the season since i want the big buck on my wall

MATHEWS PA BOWHUNTER 07-29-2008 09:39 PM

RE: Be honest, would you shoot this buck?

No, i would not but that decision is up to you.
Its in the eye of the beholder. It is not legal where i hunt. it has to have 4 points on one side, and even if it was legal i wouldn't shoot it. I've shot bucks of that caliber and i have raised my own personal bar. but if you should be so incline to take that buck i would say to congrats on a great buck.

good luck with that! take your son and let him shot it!!!!!!!!!!!

no let him walk.

RE: Be honest, would you shoot this buck?

I believe I am hunting smarter and harder than ever, however my buck sightings have been down every year in the last 5 years except for 2005 where I saw 4 good bucks (8 points or above)... two within range, but no shot. The overall deer kill for the base I hunt was down over 35% last year, making it extremely tough to hunt. I have no idea how I arrowed three deer last year when I only saw 15 or so deer in the woods last year...the entire 3 month season. I am saying this because some people have to make a flash decision in sometimes seconds, as to whether they take the shot or not on a buck like I posted. Changes the game a bunch.
