Rage and Elk....
I was curious what everyone thinks about hunting Elk with the Rage Broadheads.... We are headed out west next month and I was considering using these heads... We also sat though a seminar with Chuck Adams in Feb. in which his opinion was they would do just fine... Just wondering what everyone else thinks about it...

I did last year with the Rage 3 blade, I would never do it again. The blades popped out of the o-ring and flew like crap. I missed a 5 x 6 and the arrow sounded like a fan in flight. IMO go with a fixed head 1-less thing to worry about.

Obviously, Chuck is a more experienced elk hunter than anyone on here, but I can't get there.
As already mentioned, they are much thicker hided as compared to whitetail.
Use a fixed 125 grain and a possibly a heavier arrow(depending on what you already using)as compared to whitetails,IMO.

One thing that's gonna happen while your Elk hunting as opposed to sitting in a ladder over your local deer patch is generally, you're going to be on the ground and walking, and walking, and scrambling up ridges and moving a lot in rough country...the last thing you'll want to do is keep remembering to check your broadhead...get a big fixed blade and forget about it...you'll have enough to worry about

RE: Rage and Elk....
First, elk's hides aren't really that thick, and it doesn't take that much to penetrate through an elk. Colorado allows 35 pound bows to hunt elk. My father's best friend hunts with a 50 pound bow and has killed dozens of elk with clean pass throughs. It is not that difficult to blow through an elk, so I wouldn't be tremendously concerned about penetration unless you are shooting less than 60 pounds or so.
Them opening prematurely would be a concern. However, I have not heard anything about that happening until very recently. I plan on using them for elk this fall as well.
