The purpose of the NAW article was to clarify some of the facts surrounding the deer and dispell some of the internet rumors regarding the buck. The buck was officially estimated to weigh 412 lbs on the hoof. The hunter never claimed any record with the kill and the rack is rather average as far as matureNebraska bucks go, but even if the conservation officers girth-tape estimate was way off and the buck only weighed 380 or even 360 lbs, he is still an awesome specimen of a whitetail deer.

Exactly. It may be "old news".....but it's 2008 "Substantiated".

ORIGINAL: GMMAT

Deer was measured and estimated weight attained (same method used to determine the world record holding deer at 511#'s).

Deer was killed on a 120,000 Indian Reservation in NE Nebraska.
Thanks again for the update.

All I can say is holy crap! Even if their estimation is off by 20 lbs what a pig of a deer that is. I'm guessing the quartered it instead of dragging it.

I wonder how far they tracked it with that gut shot?

It would be pretty easy to find him. Just follow the indentions down the slope to where he laid.

i read that and thought it was old news. i wasnt sure still a good read. i have never seen one that big. anyone read the article about the guy who owes a ton in court fees for what sounds like a bogus accusation for shooting a deer at night with a gun and he got it with a bow and everything that was amazing too.

I read the article and believe that NAW has the real deal story.I wonder if the other deer in his woods made fun of him? Or whether he had any doe companionship?
