RE: How many of you have arrowed a mature buck WITHOUT
..the use of bait, game cams, and/or food plots????? Although I am probably wrong. I also always thought everyone shot deer from the ground.. apparently I was wrong about that one too. I could see how anyone of those items would help a deer hunter out. I could also see how each one would greatly hinder a hunter too. |

RE: How many of you have arrowed a mature buck WITHOUT
I have never killed a mature buck on a corn pile or a feeder,I did kill a decent buck on a food plot last year, but he was more interested in the does feeding than the actual ffod plot.I do like to use feeders and food plots, but I rarely if ever bowhunt up close to it I try to get back far enough in and try yo catch a buck slipping out of his bedding area and making his way to it.The mature bucks I have killed have mostly been in some king of transition area.

Have never used any of those, but would like to use 'the can' this year. Strangely enough I used to use a heavy link chain to secure my tree stand and twice had deer come in when coming out of the tree with my climber. I guess the sound of the stand scraping the bark and then chain rattling against the climber sparked their curiosity.

I have taken all of my deer without the use of any of those. I like it that way, unfortunately I cannot make a comparison because I have never hunted over a food plot, or with a trail cam, or over bait.

All of the bucks I hunt here in my home statelive in forested mountains, huge country...No foodplots, baiting is illegal and I just started using game cams last season (07)and got my first buck kill that I had a game cam pix of .. I do like the cameras though especially now that fuel is so spendy, a lot of my hunting spots are a long ways from my place, the cameras really help out with low impact scouting and I check mine once every 3-4 weeks.
When I hunted the bush country in Alberta nothing but a lake, marsh and big bush country where I killed my buck on an inside corner, when I lived in Dillon MT I hunted river bottoms.... so no plots or bait or cameras .. but talk about congregated deer, we'd see at least 10-12 deer a sit on stand or from our man made blinds. I was a starving college kid then, we werent very picky, shoot for filling the freezer.. I will experience a new style of hunting this year though.. Farmland Whitetails so I consider any crop field a food plot! I guess I could consider a clearcut a food plot too.. but clearcuts are often 50 to 200 acres in size.. so its not like the deer are congregated on a little strategically placed plot, but they do help out a lot in these mountains.. |

I was gonna say none of the above but if crop is the same as afood plot... my huntingfood plot runs well over 15,000 acres. We take our food plots serious here !!! :eek:Yep, I justhunt it likeyou would any 1/2 acre food plot. :D
