My "bow only" poll
Ok, please take the time to answer this poll and explain why you voted either way. This has to do with bow hunting so this should be the appropriate forum.
How much does bow hunting mean to you.....Would you give up your 2nd amendment rights to have "bow only" hunting? I'll answer this in a bit but I have a feeling most of you know how I'll vote.....and why.;) |
RE: My "bow only" poll
Although I don't enjoy 2nd amendment protections due to my own poor decision making in the past I don't want to see the rights and privledges of my friends and family infringed upon.

RE: My "bow only" poll
Amongst other passions in my life.. I am a history buff on our nations historical revolution.
A huge fan of the brilliant works of Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, and several others. I am also a bowhunter.. in fact I only bowhunt. But I firmly believe in what the country was founded on and for.. in a time period where tyranny and religious prosecution were common and rampant. The government has no right to take away our thoughts, our right to defend, our right to property, our privacy, or pursuit of happiness. Obviously I voted.. I will not give up the second amendment. |
RE: My "bow only" poll
I'll vote in favor of keeping my 2nd amendment rights (even if it meant poorer bowhunting).
explain why you voted either way I think THIS poll is going to be REALLY lop-sided. But....I also don't associate that with the results of the "other" poll. Just two totally different scenarios, is all. I'll be surprised if anyo.....OK....MORE THAN one (lol) person votes in the affirmative of relinquishing their 2nd amendment rights. Edit** Well I'll be damned...lol. That didn't take long! (2 votes to relinqish, already). |
RE: My "bow only" poll
I'd chuck my bowtech in the river tomorrow if it guaranteed the 2nd amendment remained in place for the rest of this country's existence.
In the political hunting world bowhunting is 2nd to my belief in individual freedoms and firearms ownership. |
RE: My "bow only" poll
Yeah J - I think the two choices are a little bit overly suggestive.
I think you're un-necessarily confusing bow-only hunting and 2nd Amendment rights. You can have bow-only hunting, and still have full gun ownership across the board. This isnt' something that's mutually exclusive. I make no bones about it - I want better bowhunting, and if my finger was on the red button, I'd zap gun season without two blinks of an eye. |
RE: My "bow only" poll
Bowhunters and gun hunters are joined at the hip. Once either goes down, it's only a matter of time before the other is dragged under[:-]

While I know this poll is a little extreme (and lopsided), it's not without consideration as we've already had a few say they would do away with the 2nd Amendment in order to bow hunt only. |
RE: My "bow only" poll
I voted that I would not give up 2nd amendment rights.
Now, even though we have these rights and others, does not mean we will continue to have them. If you take a good long look at our Government and how it is being ran, you can see the writing on the wall all too plainly. Some might say this is rambling. If so, I would challenge you to see what "other" rights are being eyed by our government on a daily basis, that we may or may not have tomorrow. (Which are far more important than either gun or bowhunting) LT |

RE: My "bow only" poll
I say we find Karl Marx and the other guy who voted to disband the 2nd amendment... and beat them.. with guns...[8D]
(I was in fact totally kidding... unless Karl Marx really voted.. then let's get him!).:) |

RE: My "bow only" poll
I'm just trying to get a "finger on the pulse" a "feel for the land" so to speak. I'm interested to find out if some are truly so inundated and absorbed with bow hunting to the point that they would give up rights covered by the very Constitution of the country they hunt in, in order to pursue "their" preferred form of hunting.
I'm just trying to figure out why someone is so willingly eager to put aside all the blood, sweat, tears, trials and tribulations endured by our fore fathers to make this country the greatest in the world......so they can bow hunt.[&:]Do they not realize that the weapon they are willing to ban was the very"tool" used to gain them the right to bow hunt in the first place? Are some bow hunters so elitist and smug that they wouldgive up their 2nd Amendment right (or anyAmendment for that matter) and trample all over the Constitutionto do it? Hmmmmmmm....... |
RE: My "bow only" poll
Some hunters are that selfish BigJ71 and I'll shoot their fricken faces off!:D:D:D

RE: My "bow only" poll
Ill take my vote, and take it a step further... honestly, I would do whatever it took to keep my guns, even if it meant givingup Bowhunting.(and I only have 3)

RE: My "bow only" poll
Without the Second Amendment all others are worthless.
In all honesty... I'd die fighting before I'd 'give up' my 2nd Amendment rights. Molon Labe! :) |
RE: My "bow only" poll
Every Big Game animal I have killed I have done so with a Bow. I have never even attempted to hunt Big Game with a gun.
No Way I'd give up the 2nd amendment rights for any reason. That's a No Brainer! At least for me;) Dan |
RE: My "bow only" poll
I don't own alot of guns anymore, but I have a few. I would never give up the right to bear arms for bowhunting. I love bowhunting more than gun hunting and hardly hunt with a rifle anymore, but never in a million years would I give up the Second Amendment. We couldn't keep any other rights if we didin't have the Second Amendment.

RE: My "bow only" poll
Weird question IMO. There is no way I would ever give up my 2nd amendment right just for the chance at better deer hunting. I enjoy turkey hunting with a gun..... (I was waiting for the shudders and gasps), plus upland hunting, waterfowl hunting, both of which are gun sports. Gun deer season annoys me too, but not anywhere close to enough to get rid of the guns. Cancel gun deer season...now that's another mammal in itself.

RE: My "bow only" poll
I won't give up my 2nd ammendment rights for anything. I'm not sure that the neighborhood thugs would stop tothink " Don't break into Daves house, he has a closet full of bows and he's not afraid to use them." [&:]

RE: My "bow only" poll
If anyone here would voteto give up the 2nd ammendmentfor bow hunting that person should be beaten to within an inch of death and banished to live out the rest of their life in Iraq as a human shield for the enemy.

RE: My "bow only" poll
My whole family and i hunt with guns so no i would not give up my 2nd ammendment rights.

Be careful wishing away the rights or seasons for others, yours will be next.

RE: My "bow only" poll
I voted that i will not give up the 2nd amendment. i just want it to stay the same cause ifit stays the samethen we can still bowhunt, i hunt both with a gun and bow but not with a gun much anymore casue you cant beatbowhunting.i dont think it will change our bowhunting much. also deer will populate alot faster and twice as much then get hit my cars etc... and hurt us, and also if we dont have guns then what will the enemy do? we would be attacked so easy and we would have to stand by and watch ourselves die we'll be like sitting ducks. we'd be almost harmless.

RE: My "bow only" poll
Funny, the other poll is about 50-50 on a bowhunting only county, yet this one is 95% in favor of keeping their guns. I wonder how many of those who votedtotake away the privilege of hunting with firearmsfor others, so they could bow hunt exclusively, voted to keep their guns.Intresting.

RE: My "bow only" poll
I absolutely would not give up the 2nd amendment right, I can't believe anyone here would
|
RE: My "bow only" poll
No way.... I'd sooner give up bow hunting....
Handing back the second amendment would be.... God.... I just can't imagine it... not only from a hunting standpoint but why don't I take up camp with Hanoi Jane Fonda, smoke a doobie and make a t-shirt out of the American flag? Moreover, I have a hard enough time hitting a duck with a shotgun... I can't imagine trying to kill one with a bow... even I let them light... and ammo is expensive now... but I can't imagine losing arrows left and right like I would. What deer hunters would not kill with firearms would succomb to disease or speeding motorists.... eventually the gov't would be called in to mass exterminate them.... (thats happening right here in VA now with resident geese). |

The question in the other poll was not would you vote for or not... it was how would you feel about it. I wouldn't cast a vote to take a hunting priviledge away from a law abiding citizen..... but if someway, somehow the county I hunted in decided to only allow deer hunting with a bow... hell I don't care... when gun season opens so does duck season... I don't gun hunt for deer anyway. |

RE: My "bow only" poll
Telling someone they can't gun hunt is just plain selfish. Not letting people remain connected to their hunting/family roots is also selfish. Hunting is more than P&Y bucks, and alot more than just bowhunting. It is a way of life for some. Do I like the idea of "bow only" zones for hunting, yes I do, but banning gun hunting is plain ridiculous. I like being in the minority in terms of being a bowhunter. I get to hunt the first 6 weeks of the season without any gun pressure at all on the base I hunt. Then the gun hunters get 6 weeks. Fair to me.

RE: My "bow only" poll
I think Germ and Virginiashadow make very powerful points, and lets be honest the fewer hunters there are the worse off we, as hunters, will be. I see fewer and fewer people in the sport every year and it makes me fearful for the future of hunting. Some folks would give up hunting if they cannot firearm hunt. Now, I only bowhunt anymore because I think it is the purest most challenging way to deer hunt, but I certainly want to see our hunting heritage preserved and I fear placing any more obsticles in the way of getting folks in the woods is a bad thing.
That being said, I hate the amount of insane pressure placed on the woods during gun season and overcrowding is an issue we all face. But, I believe in reality there are fewers young hunters every year and that bothers me. Furthermore, since we are talking about the 2nd Amendment, it was interesting to me that Justice Scalia noted that traditionally bows were considered a type of arms. Even though it was dicta, and it may seem far fetched, it is foreseeable that some anti-hunting groups would no doubt use that same traditional definiton to attempt to ban bows. So in short, for those that would give up your second amendment rights you may also be giving up the protection of bows. Just a thought. |
