I am not sure about IL, but here in VA...at that time of mid-fall, I use white oak acorn scent wafers. It covers my scent (IMHO) and puts an attractant in the air at the same time.
I use a spray in that scent, greta for slicks and fawns.

I would contact Senator Obama to see what he uses to blend in in Illinois. I doubt its vanilla.
