A half racked buck tastes the same as a whole racke one, that's all I care about.
I agree. It also tastes the same as a doe.

I'd hold out for a little basket racked buck.(easier to drag) It really pssssisssssss the QDM/big rack buck hunters off.[8D][8D][8D] Heck, I'll shoot the busted one too. It's not about the horns to me... and since doe tags are usually not available it could be the only meat I get. It appears to me there are an awful lot of self proclaimed big buck hunters on here that don't kill much and we haven't seen many of their "Trophies".

While for the most part my answer is no I wouldn't shoot it.If it is a true half rack with nothing on the other side I would not shoot it.If it had a great full side and a knarly other side or other side with something about it that has a lot of character I would shoot it.
For me personally I am either hunting to put something on the wall or hunting to eat it.The hunting to eat it deer is a doe for me.

Just found this picture of the buck i posted earlier. Here he is from another angle. Hopefully he is around and not the same this year. When I saw him I couldnt tell if he grew that way or if it was broken so i passed. Sure hate to kill him now when he COULD grow into a booner next year.

Anyone that professes to be for QDM should be answering "yes, if the buck was mature enough that I would have shot him with both sides." I think this question and debate pinpoints the difference in trophy hunting and QDM.

I personally would shoot it if I would have shot the same buck with both sides. My answer might change if I hunted a property(s) with any sort of QDM or trophy management in place, and would allow me to see bucks more than once, and in years to come.

There is a very good article in the current NAW about when a buck is mature, and the opinions of several as to when to shoot. Those guys say they would pass a 3.5 180 in lieu of a 5.5 anything buck. I just cannot see me ever getting to that point, LOL.

If I'd shoot it with both sides, I'd shoot it with one.

I am thoroughly amused by all of the "mature" buck hunters who say that their #1 goal is to take a "mature" deer - but then supposedly are willing to pass up a banger buck with a beam knocked off.

But then again, I'm thinking that 90 percent of this is pure b.s. - your run of the mill internet bullchit spewed by the guys who never get anything, but invariably proclaim themselves to be"passing up" good deer all the time, because they're waiting out "the big one." LOL
It was just a question about if you would shoot a half or broken rack deer or not Quick, Not like it has anything to do with your peckersize if you decide to do so.
Cyber pecker size does matter so it seems. We see it with"10% " of the guys who shoot any buckevery yearjust so they can beat their cheston the internet to strangers. They remind everyone numerous times (sometimes frequently in the same post ) of their hunting greatness all through the year.Gosh I've even heard one call himself theKING. [8D] Hunt to make you happy is lame and a poor excuse. It hurts but one needs to admit it to fit in. [&:]

To answer the original question...

I would shoot a half racked buck ifhe was mature but not too mature, the moon eclipsed waswith the sun on a very cloudy day, to show off when no one was around and last but not least... bragging rights if we find out in this poll that it is cool to do so.It's how I roll!!

Disrespecting the King is not wise[8D]

To all at some point in your hunting career killing a buck is not what it's about. Killing "the" buck is, some get here, some don't. Hunt how you want, and what brings Joy to your heart.

Hunting is fun

i had to make this desicion a couple years ago,i was setting in my tree stand one evening and this buck starts making his way up the holler and gets plenty close enough to shoot and i notice he only has one side,so i dont shoot hopeing next year for both sides he would have been a really big 10 but i later heard that he didnt make it throught the night,he wentr right up the holler and some jackass shot it from the road with a highpowered rifle, if he had been hunting and shoot it with a legal wepon i wouldnt have got mad but shooting one from the road during muzzleloader saeson with a highpowered rifle is not right

Nope, he's made it that far, I'll give him the pass. I also look VERY closely late season at any of the does I'll shoot before I arrow one.

Given the situation I am in, I would not shoot a half racked buck. Infact, I am extremely picky aboutthe bucks I do shoot.

I hunt in a place that allows a hunter to take does for the full length of a 2.5 month season, and the main reason I hunt deer anyway is just to fill the freezer and kill time until duck season comes around. I'll shoot a buck if he is a good specimen, but in my opinion that is not a buck with a busted up rack. He may be a healthy deer, but in my opinion not really worth showing off.. and thats the only reason I'd shoot a buck anyway.... just to show it off. With all the does I can and do shoot... meat is usually a non-issue by the fourth week of the season.

If someone else would get more enjoyment out of shooting a half racked buck, than its all the more incentive for me to let him go. It might make someones whole season. I wouldn't give a flip about it if I'd shot it. Take what makes you happy, if someone else took it and they were happy with it, then I'd be more than happy for them.

I haven't read every reply.... I'm sure someone must have pointed out that you'd be killin' Robs deer if you shot the half rack. Don't screw with the mods. Let him go.[8D][8D]
