I almost wish I could get that lucky. I would love to be where you are at right now. You have a car, and you arelooking for a truck. Buyers market on those things now. You could get a better than beater truck for a beater price right now. I don't want to sell my truck cause I will get beat up on the price. So I am looking for a car or the just gonna haul off and buy a bike. Its been awhile since I have been on two wheels, but to save 100 plus dollars in the couse of 300 miles is easy math.
I have been debating for a while about the same thing as you Ben (getting a dual sport), but there may be a much bigger purchase on the horizon

5 years ago when my child support ended I just opened up a savings account and had that money direct deposited into my hunting fund account. I figured I didn't have it in my check for 13 years why start now, so my hunting is funded by my old child support!!! Yeh baby!! Walt

Part time jobs....it makes it hard to budget anything

My worries right now are not that I can't get to the places I want to hunt, but that I just don't have anywhere to hunt. I know HNI doesn't have much of a soft spot for that sort of thing and just says, "go find somewhere." Believe me, I'm trying, I've been beating doors down. Public land is always an option, I found an awesome spot last year, but that really sucks the gas out. It's a 45min drive across the mountain. It's looking like I'm going to be stuck hunting the little 5 acre spot behind my house.

It beats not being able to hunt at all I guess.

You better have some room in that budget b/c gas and consumer goods are at a bargain right now compared to what they will be this fall...

No kidding. It's scary to think of what it's going to be like in two years. If history repeats itself, however, gas should drop a little in the fall months once the travel season is over. Won't be much, but I don't think it will skyrocket continually. If our dollar would just strengthen that would help a little of everything.

My child support ends this december so I'm going to try to bank it next year, not much I can do for budget this year since son moved in and adjustments will have to be made.My only big expense was dog food for the pooch, smokes, beer and very little groceries(lots of deer and free steaks from dad).I'm not big on eating out and bar hopping so that doesn't change,I play it by ear and have always been a penny pincher, still drive 75 miles a day 4-5 a week in a 4x4 1/2 ton...18.5 miles a gallon is cool!
