Embarrassingly i am struggling to pull back to full draw at 30Ibs. I thought i could handle it, or maybe its just stiff bc its new?

RE: My bow is finally here!

Well I'm glad you were finally able to get one! Great set up you've got there.

Nah, it's not because the bow is new, but it is because YOU'RE new to it. You're using muscles you haven't used before, but you'll build up to it quickly. Back that rascal off as much as you can (if it's a 30-40# bow, you should be able to get it down to around 27 or 8 ) and shoot it there for a while. Steadily build up to where you want to be. You'll be surprised at how quickly that happens.

Im just worried that its toomuch, i cant even pull it back fully, just half. [:o]:(

Can it go any further? I ordered 30-40Ib.

I wouldnt drop it down past manufacturers recommendations. But you will get the hang of it. Here is kind of a technique to it. Once you get that down you are golden. Good Luck.

RE: My bow is finally here!

Is the draw length correct? A DL that's too long will make it more difficult to get the bow @ full draw......

scooterdo75 06-05-2008 09:49 AM

RE: My bow is finally here!

You should be able to drop it down lower than 30 for starters.Im sureit depends on the bow, but I saw a 60-70lb limbHoyt droppped down and shot at 48lbs.Everyone is right though, once you get it back that first time, you will be able to crank it up in no time with some practice.

RE: My bow is finally here!

Congratulations on the new bow. I would recommend just keep practicing at pulling the bow back as often as you can. The muscles will develop the more and more you pull it back. Have fun!

RE: My bow is finally here!

Please keep an arrow nocked and pointed safely down range while you practice drawing. You don't want to experience a dry fire. FYI, if you want to put a pretty wooden grip on it contact Bowtech/Diamond. I had an '05 Diamond Victory That I changed out the grip on. It was much more comfortable and looked lots better.
My wife had trouble at first drawing her 40lb alpine bow. In a couple of weeks she was doing fine.

remington_girl 06-05-2008 10:13 AM

RE: My bow is finally here!

I done the correct measuring and my DL worked out at 25".

If im practicing in my house will i just keep an arrow nocked? I don't want to dry fire.

Im still unsure if i should lower the DW, because i was told that 30Ibs was min for my bow its set at 30Ibs.

Not sure what to do really [&:]

RE: My bow is finally here!

Do you know exactly what weight it's at now?? Perhaps it's at 40lbs and you need to turn it down. If there is any way to get to a bow draw weight scale that would be my first step. You must know exactly what it's at now in order to turn it down safely. Make sure you stay within the factory limits as to how much you can back it down. As mentioned you should be able to get it to 28 or so pounds. It's quite possible (if it was shipped to you) that it arrived maxed at 40lbs (or even a couple lbs higher) so you really need to find out where it's at.

Good luck and congratulations on the new bow....it looks great!

RE: My bow is finally here!

Thanks for the compliments :)

WhenI bought it, I asked for it to be set at 30. They said they would tune it etc and keep it at 30 for me. I am not sure if it would be safe to go below the min weight.

buckmaster 06-05-2008 10:33 AM

RE: My bow is finally here!

JMO, it sounds like the poundage is set at 40... IDK what kind of Frame you have, but 30lbs really isnt that much, Take it to a shop and have them put it on a scale...

were you there when they set it up? i assume not, but anyway, ireally honestlythink you could handle 30lbs.... but as said before your using a completly different set of muscles. Good luck and Congrats on your new bow, It looks great.

Centaur 1 06-05-2008 10:33 AM

RE: My bow is finally here!

Thirty pound isn't much weight, it's all tecnique. Once you get the hang of it you'll be suprised how easy it is. They're just different muscles from what you use normally. A buddy of mine who lifts weights wanted to try archery and he couldn't pull my bow set at 60#. It was actually pretty funny, here's this guy with huge arms and he was struggling so hard to pull it back. Stick with it and congrats on the new bow.

That's my point...just because they told you it would be shipped at 30lbs doesn't mean it was. Hell it doesn't even guarantee it's a 30-40 lbs bow (stranger mistakes have been made before) It should say on the limbs somewhere the limbpoundagerange.

Is there any place you can bring it to have it measured? That NEEDS to be done first before any adjustments can be made. If you can't then there is another way around it. You can bottom the limbs all the way (max poundage...40 in your case) then call Diamond and ask how may turns out from full max is safe. This should get you down to the lowest setting of the bow.

Without a scale that's about the only way to be close to your lowest setting....Good luck.

mobow 06-05-2008 10:39 AM

RE: My bow is finally here!

It's not set @ 40...Looking at the pics you can plainly see that the limbs are backed out. You should be able to back them off a LITTLE more, but you want to make sure the lower edge of the limb does NOT rise above the limb pocket.....That would be bad, very bad. In short, if you're really close to that point now, and you're uncomfortable backing it out more.....Don't.

remington_girl 06-05-2008 10:45 AM

Heres a pic of the limb. What do you guys think?

mobow 06-05-2008 10:46 AM

RE: My bow is finally here!

That's the cam.....Need a pic of where the limb meets the riser...Where the adjustment bolt is.

Also.....do you know for sure it's set @ 25", and do you know for certain it's a 30-40# bow? Is it possible that the wrong one was shipped?

RE: My bow is finally here!

Hard to tell but I don't think them limbs are not backed out as far as they can go...may not be bottomed out but their not backed out all the wayeither.....You NEED to get the weight checked or do like I told you before. Bottom them out (turn thatAllen head "right to tighten, left to loosen till it stops) Then find out how many turns out you can safely loosen those exact same bolts and you will be at about it's lightest weight. I'm sure there is a Bowtech/Diamond rep here who can help with that number. Remember to alternate limbs not turning either more than one complete turn before switching to the other. That's when tightening or loosening the limb bolts.

Good luck

RE: My bow is finally here!

the bow packaging should state which bow you got...look for it to make sure 30/40 is what you got. read the manual it should of came with, find out how many turns on the limbs bolts are too many, than findan allen wrench and turn the bolts all the way in(getting the poundage up all the way to 40), once you have that done than you can start to back them out according to instructions in the manual. make sure each limb gets equal turns..if you follow the instructions you should be able to do it safely.

WVSPORTSMAN 06-05-2008 11:43 AM

RE: My bow is finally here!

also, post a pic of the riser meeting the limb, you did post one, but at the wronge angle the side of the bow should face the camera in equal portions and center the camera a little below the top limb

RE: My bow is finally here!

Hey, i checked my invoice it says that they are set at 30. 30-40 limbs.

I don't know if i would just be better bottoming it out turning both till they stop and starting to build up then move up the poundage? Or just leave it as it is and practice pulling back (with arrow nocked of course) until the time comes.

The thing is, i really don't want to damage the bow or injure myself. There are no pro shops here either. I will let my boyfriend have a look at it too.

I have a 10 day return policy on my bow but its not like its damaged and it was expensive to ship from the states.

mobow 06-05-2008 11:47 AM

RE: My bow is finally here!

U can definetly get at least 1 full turn off of that yet, probably 2. That would be around 6#'s......Just make sure the bottom of the limb doesn't come above the limb pocket and you'll be fine.

No giving up! Read the manual and you will become more familar with it (males think this is an insult when suggested but there is a reason it is written[:-];)). While 30lbs is not much, if you are entirely unused to drawing a bow it can be too much. Use the muscles between your shoulder blades (like pulling back your shoulders) - do not use just your shoulder/upper arm muscles to pull it. It may still be difficult but if you practice say 50 times a day, in two weeks it will be easy and you can start increasing draw weight.

That's backward! When I/we talk about "bottoming out the limbs" it means tightening the bolts down to achieve max poundage. If you start to loosen the bolts they won't stop and you will end up removing the bolt that will cause the bow limb to come off....Bad, real bad! That's why you need to find out what the max number of turns you can safely LOOSEN the bolts once they have been completely tightened. Please don't do anything till you understand this concept fully...ok?

The only way to remove the limbs (most bows) is to take out the limb bolt, that's why it won't stop when you loosen it. The manufacture will provide you with a safe number of turns you can loosen the bolt (from complete tight) so as to not be too lose where damage to you or the bow might occur.

Just keep asking questions till you understand it fully, that's what this form as all about, there are plenty of folks to help you. You have to start somewhere so don't worry about noobie this or noobie that....we ALL had to start somewhere. I wish I had a place like this to help me when I first started "tinkering: with my bows.....would have saved me time, money and headaches, no doubt.[&:]

No worries, I understand now. That was backwards lol. My bad..;)

I'll keep practicing with the way it is just now. Though just supposing they did makea mistake, how could i tell the actual DW? Go to a pro-shop?

I do trust that they set it up properly, it was tested by huntersfriend. I have faith :D

If it gets too tough i may loosen the bolts and give them 2 full turns, to the left.

P.S if i wanted to adjust the DL is it possible? Do I have more room to do so?

UNSURE OF THE CAMS ON THE BOW.....SHOULD HAVE MODS THAT CAN BE SWITCHED OUT WHEN NEEDED. THAT IS A GREG/MO QUESTION . I PUT A LINK TO HIS PROFILE IN THE EARLIER POST.

remington_girl 06-05-2008 12:26 PM

RE: My bow is finally here!

I think the best course of action would be to just get right in there and practice (with an arrow nocked of course) I have a QAD arrow release though its flat, do i always need to cock it before i pull back (even without an arrow nocked) or does it rise automatically when i pull back a certain length?

As for DL, can it be adjusted on my cam if needed?

WVSPORTSMAN 06-05-2008 12:32 PM

RE: My bow is finally here!

YOU CAN DRAW TO COCK IT BUT, I WOULD COCK IT BY HAND, KEEPS NOISE DOWN WHILE HUNTING AND YOU ARROW MIGHT FALL OFF THE LAUCHER IF YOU STRUGGLE TO PULL IT BACK

whitetailbowhunter 06-05-2008 01:56 PM

RE: My bow is finally here!

If you bottom the limb bolt to the max then turn them out no more than 21/2 turn you will have to lowest draw weight for the bow.
