I know somebody who saw a fawn right along sidea busy road, got out of their car, picked up the fawn, and moved it further back into the woods. Will there be a problem with the mother excepting it back and taking care of it? I was wondering about the human odor aspect of this?

Good question early... Im not sure i can only hope the mother cares for it!

I always heard once you touch them you sealed their fate.I know this is true with birds but not real sure about deer.I would make a attempt to make sure the lil guy was back with mama.IMO

Unless the mother was really stressed for some reason, it shouldn't be a problem. Good buddy of mine was the animal control officer here for 17+ years and he reunited many fawns with their mothers. My own experience has been to lift fawns over page wire fences a couple times where they were stuck and panicing; the does were a little concerned but quickly got over it and hauled their babies off to safety.

It should be ok. If the fawn was laying there and not moving alot I can almost guarantee you that mama was close by watching. If the fawn is pretty young the mother will not go very far from it simply for the predator aspect. usually when i see a young fawn if you take the time to slow down and wait you can usually spot mama pretty close by waiting for you to leave.

The someone I was talking about was my dad!He's 77 years old, and he thought he was doing the right thing to keep the little guy/girl from getting hit by a car. He wouldn't know to look around to see if mom was nearby.I even said to him that the mother probably was watching the whole thing. Thanks for the input.
