I was deer hunting and had a flock of turkeys about 70 yards from me. A red tailed hawk came swooping in and landed on a stump about 15 yards from the turkeys, and all the turkeys bunched up as close as they could to one another and charged the hawk and scared it off. That was probably the coolest thing I had seen. The strangest thing I have had happen to me is getting chased by a skunk. I was walking across our camp area headed towards the building with the intentions of taking a shower before going out for the mornings hunt. About half way to the building I noticed a dark spot in the grass, now keep in mind it is dark outside and I didnt have my glasses nor did I have my contacts in. Anyway being not the brightest bulb in the box I chose to get closer and investigate. After closing the distance to about 5 feet I relized what it was and the skunk must have known who was boss and he chased me all the way back to the camper that I had come from.

well seeing a deer pee is pretty funny. ;)
but seeing a spike with just one spike, being very agressive and grunting was pretty dern cool |

LIke it was in slow motion a coopers hawk pulled a titmouse out of the air 4 yards from my blind...As it locked its talons on it and ate its prey I shot video of the hawk at 5 yards on the ground....It was a night I will never forget....
Better than the night a fox squirrel used my shoulder as a spring platform to launch itself into a tree..... |

Almost forgot, I tried to get revenge on the skunk the next night with my glock. I shot and missed, and the little sucker charged me. I shot 7 times at that thing while it was coming at me and never touched it. I hate to admitt it but once again I turned and ran retreating like a little girl. My hunting buddies still give me crap about it.

i saw a doe being chased by coyote once too, that was cool.
the best sound i have ever heard though, is hunting in a swamp, and hearing a deer walking through or swimming in the water just gets my heart out of my chest |

Late December bowhunt, snow was on the ground, walking to my stand in the afternoon. One of my properties of which I am the only one with permition borders a fairly busy state highway. From the highway the woods is on a very steep sidehill. I'm walking back to my stand just above the highway and notice 2 sets of boots prints in the snow coming up from the highway and going straight up this steep hill through one of the brushiest areas. Curious and thinking someone is hunting without permition, I follow the bootprints and they lead almost to the top of this hill, about 500 yards. I get to where the tracks end and there is a deep hole with an opening about the size of a beachball dug into the hill. THe hole was crazydeep too as I putabout a 5 foot stick down there and didnt hit bottom. The weirdest part was that laying around the hole was a ton of newspaper pieces crumpled up into balls. Many of the newspapers where strewn about except for a number laying right next to the hole were covered in blood and the snow surrounding the hole was covered in blood. I had a flashlight on me soI nervously shined it down into the hole but couldnt make out anything. The same two boot tracks left the hole but were now dragging something behind them through the snow, all the way back down to the highway! AT that point I backed out, and called the county sheriff who came out and took a look and some information and that was the last I ever heard of it.
Far and away the freakiest thing I ever came across hunting. |

Once while in my stand, I watched a red tailed hawk chase a squirrel up, then downa tree, in a spiral fashion. I didn't even know a hawk could flythat way! It was awesome. Anyway, the hawk perched, watched the squirrel run across the ground, and snatched him up. Then, and this is the strange part, hid the squirrel under a bush, and flew off. I didn't see him come back either. It was strange.

I was still hunting through a young stand of pines in AL and walked within 30 or soyards of a group of turkeys. I didnt see them and I dont know how they didnt see me earlierbut when they finally did, the place exploded! They didnt run, they flew and it scarred the daylights outta me. The noise was incredible....could have sworn I was dead or was about to be.

2years ago we had a spike bucknear thecabin who had a glass bottle stuckonhisright spike. I figutr he must have been sparring with it [8D]. . we saw him 3 or 4 times over the course of a month before loosing him when the rut kicked in.
Two weeks ago I glassed a dozen turkeys across a field (about 250 yards away). Onewas snow white, so I figuredit was adomestic that had escaped from a farm. . . but my bino's suck, and after closing the gap to 50 yards (I'm inside the woodline), I was awstruck to see a bird with a snow white back and upper half of its wings. The rest was dark. . . no visible beard though. |

i was restin my hand on a tree and was wigglin my fingers to keep them warm and i guess a red tailed hawk thought it was a mouse or something and when i turned around this big red furry thing was flying at me and right be-4 it got to me, my uncle who was with me goes, watch out stever! and the hawk was able to dodge me,

I saw 2 German Shepherds chasing deer during the opening week of turkey season. Ive called owls into the tree i'm sitting against, and i've had birds land and crap on me before too.
Me and my dad once found a complete campsite with a tent, cooking utensils, 2 sleeping bags...and clothes, but it had been deserted for some time because the stuff was rotting. We never figured out why they left everything there, kinda strange and creepy. |

While bowhunting one morning two fawns came in and walked around me for 20-30 minutes. As I was watching them I see the mother come racing in @ 20 yrds in front of me. The fawns go peeling toward her and start nursing like the were dying of thirst, one on each side. I didn't even grab my bow. After a couple minutes they pulled their heads up and she split like a bolt of lighting!
I left my stand that night knowing that I could have, if I really wanted to. |

ORIGINAL: DropTine249 Ok...I totally forgot this one(really digging deep into the brain, now)..actually a few.. While rut hunting one rainy day, i see my flock of turkeys working down the funnel I am hunting. One tom walks over to a stump and starts making these wierd sounds, extending his wings and bouncing. I watch, he jumps onto the stump and start to bounce more, continuing his wierd sounds and wing thing. I thought it was hilarious, so I shot him. While hunting a field edge last season. I kept hearing doe bleats. I text messaged my buddy and told him to shut up. The second I sent that message, I get one from him..telling me to shut up. A confused minute or 2 later we see 2 fawns come FLYING into the field, bleating like crazy. Seriously, I dont even think their feet were on the ground. The were playing, chasing each other and sparring(no racks). it was reall cool to watch. While bowhunting from a hedge row, on the ground one evening, I called a spike over to me, he came within a few feet of me. I could have reached out and pet him. He had NO idea I was there. My brother and I set out for an early season morning hunt. We are set up outside of a bedding area, waiting for deer to return. My brother texts me and says he just saw something really big walk across a tree that had fallen over a small stream(like a bridge), before we had shooting light. After the hunt I walked over to look at the log, NO way a deer walked it, but he said it was as big as a deer. I kept an arrow nocked and looked for tracts, nothing. However, his description of this "thing" matched that of what the guards had seen in the fields at night. |

Well mine involves man [&:]It was about 10 years ago, i was hunting the last week of bow season before the firearms opener. I was perched at the edge of a CRP field with an oil well road about 100 yards in front of me parraleling the woodline. The deer were pounding a trail below my stand. A truck comes down the oil road, parks in front of me, gets out with a rifle [X(]grabs a hatchet, and of all things two yellow bags of morton salt [>:]he proceds to walk directly under my stand, me unnoticed (remember he has a rifle, im not sayin nothing) Walks 10 yards behind me, drops to his knees and starts digging a hole with the hatchet, Dumps in a bag of salt and lightly covers with dirt. [:@]Im furious, he just ruined a good stand sight. (very illegal in Indiana) He takes off deeper in the woods. I climb down go to the local coal mines shop and call the warden ;)I meet the warden and go over te details. He waits at the guys truck and meets him just after dark. He fines the hell out of him and marches his butt back in the woods to dig up the salt. He also got him for litteringbecause he left the twobags in the woods. Iarrowed a respectable 2.5 year old 9 point three days later about 100 yards from there ;)

While heading to my stand one morning I stopped and put doe-in-heat on my boots.About 100 yds from my stand I hear something closing in on me,so I picked up the pace.At 30 yds from my stand it was getting even closer so I trotted up to the base of the tree to listen and it was closing in even faster.I scurried up the tree and shined the light only to see a big fat a$$ and obviously "horny"possum.With my heart pounding like crazy I couldn't help but to giggle.:)
My second story involes a teenaged boy,a goat and a black lab. While heading to my stand a caught monment and zeroed in on what I thought was a deer.After a 25 minute stalk I was 35 yds and noticed alot of noise coming from the area.I noticed a sapling shaking and my heart started to pound.More movment caught my eye to my left and I noticed a black object.I made out the dog and stood up to run it off.I gave out a loud yell and all of hell broke loose.A little further to the left the young man jumped from his lawn chair and ripped his britches up.The barked like hell and all three left on a dead run.I approached the chair and noticed a wooden box wraped with plastic.Next to the box was a dirty mag,go figure.I still don't know what role the goat played but I think I could havesaved it from apretty embarrassing episode.:) |

Had a coyote stalking my turkey decoys back in '93, through the middle of a field. It was cool as heck, didn't turn out so well for the coyote he met my 10 ga. #4's at 40 yds.

Mine: I called in two button bucks during the rut. They came in fast, side by side, stood 10 yrds from my tinks 69 wick, started stomping and snorting and both were peeing all over the place. I guess they only got the smell...never got the taste!
My buddies: A skeleton. turned out to be a lady from 2 states over, missing for 8 years. They determined she hiked in and committed suicide with a knife. |
