I'd probably have to say .. when soley...by chance I snuck up on a mountain lion laying on a mountain side while I was elk shed hunting in the Frank Church wilderness. that doesnt happen very often.. He didnt get up until the wind direction changed and my scent finally drifted his way, I got to squat down and watch him take a cat bath for about 5 minutes. .one of the coolest encounters I have had ... 50 yards away

A few years back on the next to last saturday of fall archery season here in PA I had a very nice 8pt buck come in and make a set of rubs about 50-60yds away from me, but he wouldn't come any closer for me to get a shot at him. He just casually walked away down into a creek bottom when I grunted to him. Not 10 minutes later a small button buck came from the exact area the 8pt just retreated to and went right to the fresh rubs and started scraping them with his head acting like he had a full rack and was a big bad adult buck. LOL!!! Just to see him and how he rubbed those trees with his little nubs you would have thought he was a Monster Buck.

I was set up on a field edge one morning when I saw something coming towards the field from the opposite side. When they got to about 10 yards from the edge I could tell it was the neighbors dogs. They came out into the field and headed up the hill to my right. A couple minutes later, something else is moving towards the field from the other side closer to me than the dogs. A coyote pops out into the field and looks up the hill towards the dogs. I grab my bow as he turns and heads my direction. At about 40 yds, he turns and looks back up the hill. I look up and see the dogs disappearing over the hill. The coyote runs up the hill towards the dogs, then stops. I see the dogs tails appear over the horizon and the coyote comes back towards me......this game repeated itself for about20minutes until the coyote finally disappeard over the same hill as the dogs.

I got in to my bow stand one morning about an hour before daylight b/c I had seen a good buck there. It was just starting to break light and I caught a glimpse of something coming right at me. I had a flying squirrel land on my chest and sail off to the next tree. It scared me to death and I didn't have to worry about falling asleep.

Man this post has been a good read. Finding a bodyis def. one of my worst fears while hunting. My cousins find lots of dead bucks during turkey season by following the stink, ive heard of people walking up on bodies like this too.

best thing i've seen lately is a hawk come down and take a snake while I was riding to my stands last month

Two things I can think of. First, I was hunting deer from a hang on stand and had a turkey about 20 yards behind me give some kind of assembly call I assume since I counted 21 other turkeys march out of a field, thru the woods I was perched in, and to the bird making all the noise. As it was getting dark, I think to myself "isn't it time these birds should be roosting?" No sooner did I get that thought out than did the birds start taking to the trees... All Around Me! They make one hell of a racket too. They were shifting around for a bit and I was afraid one would end up above me. I was never so glad to be wearing a hat :) Finally, it got dark and they got quiet. I was wondering how the heck to get down without spooking them all. I was thinking I'd end up losing my grip as they all panicked, but amazingly i made it down without them spooking.

Second- I watched a hawk swoop down on a squirrel, but the squirrel made it between the trunks ofa forked tree and the hawk veered off. The hawk perched about 10-15 yards from me, at about eye level (I was in a tree stand). I was watching this hawk watching this squirrel, when out of nowhere came a flock of about 10 blue jays. Those little birds were screeching away at the hawk and drove it off! I watched the little birds chase that hawk for a while screaming the whole way.

I still have nightmares wondering about that poor goat.:D

I did find a plastic human skull once and that creeped me out.I wasn't sure if it was real or not.

I like messing with the little critters,once while hunting some persimmon trees I had my stand on a tree that was right next to a persimmon tree and about 30 minutes before dark several coons made their way in to the fruit trees and one of them started up the tree beside me,so i sat perfectly still until the coon got even with me and I lunged at him,man that sucker came unglued he almost shet hisself that was so funny,and one afternoon with the sun still high and casting my shadow on the ground I keep spooking a squerell which was on the ground by moving my hand shadow over him like a hawk flying down ,he would take off every time hit the trunk of a tree and start barking.

Me and my buddy found a plastic doll head shoved onto a fence post this year....scared the crap out of me for a second
