vaccum sealers for venison
How many of you are using vaccum sealers for packaging your venison or other game meat?? I like to process my own and use the freezer paper in a double wrap, but was thinking about possable buying a vaccum sealer instead. I have noticed some processors are using them now. how ya likes em? :D

RE: vaccum sealers for venison
Our entire group has been using Foodsaver vaccum sealers for wow.....maybe 15 years or more?
I think to a man we ALL have one. I don't know how you can do without one if you want to keep meat and fish, and even veggies ect fresh for extended periods of time. If mine suddenly stopped working I would seriously go out and buy a new one the very next day. Nothing worse than losing good eats to freezer burn. :( |

It's the only way to go Blood!!!
But you do have to be carefull rooting around in your freezer. If you put a hole in a bag, it's no longer vaccum sealed.;)And frozen meat clanking together can make a hole in a hurry. |

One of the best kitchen appliances made. I use it for so many things and you don't need to use the vacuum for everything. Reseal your potato chip bags and you'll never have a stale chip again. My only suggestion is find a place where you can leave it out, I leave mine on top of the microwave.

I use the foodsaver a little but I usually package my wild game in water. It takes up alot of space in the freezer, but the meat stays good.

I also use my vacuum sealer all the time. You can even vacuum seal some spare clothes, matches whatever to a flat water tight package easy to throw in your pack or whatever.

RE: vaccum sealers for venison
I use one aswell. I have the vacuum sealer made by Rival and it seems to be a great unit. I have been using it for about a year now. Great idea about resealing potato chips. I would have never thought of that.
Usually when I use mine it is to freeze left overs, like this sunday I wanted to smoke some ribs. Instead of smoking one set of ribs I did two. I also put on two whole chickens. My wife and I ate about half a rack of ribs then I vacuum sealed the rest in portions for dinner and work lunch portions. Then they go into the freezer. When I want smoked ribs I either put them in the fridge the day prior or thaw in water for about an hour. Then into the microwave. I leave them in the sealed bag when I nuke them and it steams them. Works great and saves time during the week when I am really busy. |
