Take care of all the small details of the hunt prior to entering the woods, being well prepared. That allows you to focus on the task at hand, which is getting to your hunting area quietly.

When shooting a deer that is extremely close from a treestand, aim at the lower 1/3rd of its body or else you will shoot high.
Are you peeking at my notes?
Good advice.
Attention to details will always get you more deer. When I was younger and had more time I was meticulous In my preparation. As I got older and life got more hectic I let things slide. It has cost me some deer.[&o]

1. Choose your blood trail follow-up time immediately after the shot and stick with it. Don't rationalize and follow up sooner after climbing down. Get get a buddy to help if you can. It's almost impossible to wait too longor have too many bright lights.

2. Shoot a Bowtech. Sorry about this one if you're a Hoyt/Mathews/PSE shooter, but switching to my06 Ally has made increased my confidence in delivering lethal shots, this is fundamental and it occurred because of the help/support available here.

3. Pay the extra money for good arrows. They make a difference. I don't if it's mentalor physical but they do make a difference.

4. The power of this forum's collective consciousness is awesome despite the occasional, tiresomebickering.

How about shoot a bow you are confident in? The name on the limbs has zero to do with killing a deer.

The more time you spend in your stand, the more deer you will see!

When you get down to about two weeks before hunting season, limit your shooting to one arrow per day. I get up early, put on my slippers, go out in the yard and fire one perfect arrow. A broadhead into a broadhead target. Put the bow away and go to work.

Solid, repeatable form is the number one ingredient for acceptable, consistent results with archery tackle.[/align]

I'm a firm believer in the "one shot" practice session, especially closer to the season, or the hunt itself. That buck's only giving you one anyway!

I agree completely when you are in, or closer to the season!

I do think that during the off-season is a great time to shot, LOTS. Familiarity breeds success!

Have fun, suck the marrow out of every experiance, relax, and you will have the time of your life. It has not put more venison in the freezer, but it makes it taste so much better.
