RE: Honest Question: Cow hunts.

My buddyhad a bad ass momma angus than was notorious for busting down the fence and marching off. After a stressful 5 day hunt, and yes i called it a hunt, my buddies dad shot it with a slugger in the noggin and put it down. Didnt kill it though, just swelled up. They still got that cow today come to think of it.

I think it could kill some off season time, what the heck...:D

So what method would be the best for a would-be cow bowhunter?

Spot-and-Stalk?
Stands set up in high-traffic areas?
Baiting?
Shoot them from a vehicle?
Cattle Drives?

And I'd guess you'd want to be using a high-KE setup with a cut-on-contact head.

Do you think the other cattle would "wise up" after the first one went down?

Personally, I'd start off with a spot-and-stalk technique, trying to keep the shots under 25 yds. If that didn't work, I'd be willing to explore other avenues.

High fence pen, drugged and over a bait pile.

I prefer the grain and sledge hammer method, you just have to make sure you hit it square,or they get pretty upset.
Seriously I would not shoot a cow with a bow and arrow,if it isn't a game animal I am not using hunting equipment to kill it.
A buddy of mine several years ago was practically begging a friend of his who was going to be butchering a steer to allow him to shoot it with a broad head.He was going on an elk hunt and he wanted to check penetration.

I love eating them, but I'd have no interest in shooting one with my bow. If the farmer was OK with it I'd have not problem with someone else doing it, but it just doesn't interest me.

I used to go cow tipping as a teenager and this would seem like the same thing, but with a bow. I guess I've grown up a little since then.;)
