HSUS and PETA have been around. I read the article and thread earlier and sent a response to the company. I guess those in the area might want to consider not shopping there.

This reminds me of a thought for a new forum. A forum where anything hunting related that is beingthratened by anti hunting groups, laws, etc can be posted because honestly I live in VA and would never know of things like that going on in the West or other regions across the globe. Not that I am terribly worried about these groups but the tactics that they use and things they go after would be worth knowing especially if there is anything that can be done to help by other hunters.

I didn't read all the posts, but here is my take on it. It's trophy hunting pure and simple. You shoot one because you have the money and you want to do it because you can say you did it and it would look cool in your trophy room or something.

In my opinion it is no different than someone that purely trophy hunts for deer. If you are waiting for the perfect mature buck with a monster rack so you can take a bunch of pictures, have it mounted and show it off in your home it's the same exact thing. Your not doing it to feed your family or thin out the herd, because if you were you wouldn't be passing up deer until you found the right one, or you would be shooting does as well.

Not saying if I think it's right or wrong or if you should or shouldn't do it, just my take on it.

I would personally have no desire to do it though.

Not sure why you linked Save the giraffes petition or deer petition. Those are anti hunting petitions. They still allow Giraffe huntingright, so the antis must not have made a lot of headway and2000 signatures on a deer saving petition is far from a threat to deer hunting. But if the deer hunters in that area had started or did start a petition to protect their deer huntingit would have been good to know so other hunters could have supported them if possible.

We know they(antis) are there, kind of like gnats. Enough to really annoy you but not enough to force you into hiding or abandon your beliefs.

I just think it's silly for someone to go specifically after a freakin GIRAFFE!!!!!!!!!!! Look at that damn thing man, how would you get that in your house? I don't want it equated with trophy deer hunting, though I don't consider myself a trophy hunter, I shoot does and some years and areas I shoot young bucks, but I will also shoot a big buck and have, and I eat and mount and take pics....now, I still think it is wierd that someone shoots a GIRAFFE!!! I don't have any desire to shoot a giraffe but if its legal and he has a tag I support someone elses right to kill one, and unless you have been to africa who knows they could be a very difficult trophy to hunt and thats what it's realy about hunting I don't think any of us hunt soley to feed our family's it would be cheaper to eat steak every meal than venison pound for pound so we all are pretty much hunting just because we love to hunt, and any meat we get is valued and used but just a bonus to our passion hunting.

A giraffe would not be in my top 10 for an african hunt.....but.....heck.... I'd flip one and donate the beef....

Wolves out west, rabbits in the east?
Why hunt anything at all really?
What about those traveling out of state for a hunt where they dont return with the meat?
Why is a giraffe different?
Why would anyone deer hunt here if they dont eat the meat thereselves?

How is africa "trophy" hunting any different than a deer hunter holding out for a 3.5 or older deer. It sure ain't for the meat.

People hunt for different reasons, why bash those who hunt different animals than you? I mean, seriously, what is the point?

I think hunting a variety of animals is awesome, and something I hope to accomplish in the future, whether it be Giraffes or Unicorns...I like hunting.
