Depends on the tree, cover, and terrain most of the time. Im generally 19-23 feet up Id say.

I think I will be doing more hunting off the ground this year, but when I hang a stand it is 12-28 feet off the ground usually. I dont think I have ever gone above 30 - like someone said, the treetops get in the way of shooting. I prefer higher over lower, but often the conditions prefer lower:eek:.

I never used a safety harness the first 5 or so years I hunted....stupid me. I would climb tree climbs and stand/sit in the v's of trees with my gun....what a dumb idiot I was. These days, no safety harness, no hunting from the tree. If I forget my harness which is very rare, I will hunt from the ground.
