CBS news in Chicago is going to run the story on the 10 o'clock news. I heard about it on the radio driving home and there have been sighting farther North in Willamette recently.

Killed on Roscoe Street in Roscoe Village. They say over 150lbs. and about 8 feet from nose to tail. They are saying they don't think it is the one seen recently in Willamette.

I just caught the tail (pun sort of intended) of this on the news, the locals were complaining about the gun shots.....I agree it was careless to fire all those shot in a residential area but c'mon would they rather have that thing roaming the streets? It may help with the rat problem though!!!

So there could be a second in the area. That could be a little more alarming...It takes two to tango if you know what I mean ;)

One big kitty + another big kitty = bunch of small kitties

Still seems dumb they had to kill the cat. The news thing never said the cat appeared to show agression or harmful acts towards people. Why couldn't they ahev called animal control and followed it till it was in need of being shot for safety reasons or control arrived and darted the cat. I'm not one to jump to conclusions when i dont know the whole story but im guessing the officers are glad they killed it and wanted to look like heros/be thefirst ones to kill a dangerous cat. Seems like a waste and a bigger deal was made of the situation than needed to be IMO. WCL

As the shots stopped Greene heard the police yelling, "We got him! We got him!" ........... Now thats what I ment. Those guys didnt kill the cat cuz it needed to be put down, they killed it prematurely just because they could. WCL

They said animal control tried all day with tranqulizer guns but never saw it. The police aren't used to kitty cats that big in these parts.

Haha IC. Still didn't seem that the cat was showing harm or agressionto anyone. Its not like it was in its hunting element/mode in a big city. I'm guessin it was a lil confused and lookin for a way out. Could be wrong though I guess. Never know.

I agree WCL, they were obviously able to close enough to kill it with their handguns (I assume they used their sidearms at least), which means they were close enough to use the tranq. gun on it as well. Drug the cat and have the state dept of resources relocate the animal.

On a side note - is it known if a cougar will trace its way back to an area that it was previously moved from? I know bears are known to do it, but what about Cougars?
