I had my hopes but I was disappointed...

Ok, well we all talk about our younger generation and how we want them to get into bowhunting/fishing/ outdoors, well, you guys know Im a teacher, US history. Well today I lost my warm fuzzy side with the little darlins a bit. I was teaching a lesson on D-Day and then the end of the war and then onto the Cold War. I was really excited b/c I have so much respect for my grandfather and his generation. Well, only about 5 kids seemed to even care about the blood that was shed on June 6 1944. WE watched a video on the topic and I had to keep stopping and shutting them up from talking. I tried to explain to them the courage that these men had and the sacrafice they gave, but it was no use. Im a pretty good speaker and it was all I could do to keep them up!. Man, Im so disappointed, they just don't care about it I guess. Forget about trying to get these kids into hunting, they could care less. I have to vent!!!

I'm with ya Vabowman, because you know I'm right in there, too. I have kids in my homeroom who don't even stand for the pledge[:@] Most who do stand barely mumble the words...it's saddening to see the lack of respect they have for our brave service men and women who fought and died for our freedoms. Sometimes it's very discouraging, but keep on going bud, because sometime it takes persistance...just some spark, and we as teachers get to ignite that spark. You sound like a good man and a great teacher.

I was just wondering how many did not care, that's all.
I have some items from WWII from my Grandfather and Uncles.
Samira swords(2 of them)
German Knives, Helmet and gear
We also have a letter from my Grandfather sent right after we dropped the bomb. He states never to question what President Truman did, because it saved his life. He feared if the war went on, he would die.
I can copy of the letter and send it to you if you like, really is powerful letter. I was going to be a history teacher, but this internet thing came along
