RE: Is filming hunts becoming "Old Hat"?
ORIGINAL: Germ For the record I have never spooned another hunter, LOL Here's a question has taking video ever cost anyone a shot? Seriously, it never cost us a deer. We weren't real hard core about getting video. But it did force us to quit hunting earlier then normal-- lack of good light. We viewed it as an end of season -- fill a few tags -- have fun w/ a friend thing. |

I have been offered positions by two different production companies (both nationally televised) to video with them (not going to post who on the open forum)... Honestly, I have no interest in doing so at all.....Actually, a good buddy I used to have andI are no longer friends because I wouldn't join one of the production companies with him. He did end up signing with and partnering up with one of their original members though.... So he did achieve his "dream" I guess. To bad a friend was lost over something so petty. As for "old hat", I don't know.... But the talent pool seems awfully thin when I watch many of the shows on TV.However, I do like to watchquite a few oftheshows and videos for sure, but it is 100% not for me.

Do you think the people getting into this now are on the downhill side of this phenomenon? Or....is now THE best time to dive in? |

RE: Is filming hunts becoming "Old Hat"?
There are a lot of good points in this thread. I personally watch very little hunting shows on TV because I really don't have a huge interest in Texas whitetails or African wilderbeasts. The last hunting video I bought was "The Truth" turkey hunting video by Primos, hoping the video would show me how to use thier calls and become a better turkey hunter (what a disappointment).
I have, however, found a new and exciting interest in filming my family and friends in hunts (as well as videoing other events). I've been studying filming techniques from lighting & sound to shot setups, and hope to upgrade my camera when money allows. I am even going as far as purchasing editing software to create DVD's for enjoyment. I am going at this with story telling in mind, not just getting the kill on film. If it works out to be a part time job,and a few "sponsors" like my work, then maybe I'll make a little extra cash on the side. For now, I'm keeping my day job:D |
