Learned a little something...
I have expanded my shed hunting turf this Spring and in doing so learned a little something that I thought I would share. Shed hunting is a great tool for hunters for a variety of reasons. Assuming you find sheds, it gives you solid evidence of what bucks have survived the previous season. Shed hunting also allows you to survey those areas that you may not dare venture into during the regular hunting seasons. The list goes on.
Above and beyond all of the obvious reasons that shed hunting is such a valuble tool there is an additional tip that I have come to realize. I came to my slight epiphany shortly after walking a new piece of property I had just attained permission to shed hunt. I was not allowed any regular firearms or bowhunting permission, only shed hunting. BUT, I was able to learn a great deal about a very nice piece of property that I would have never been able to learn about otherwise. In conclusion, shed hunting can be a lead in to gaining access for bowhunting or gun hunting, but even if you only gain access to shed hunt be sure to take notes. You may never even know what lives on the property next door. By the way, I think I found one to go after next year. Here's a picture of my wife with a "decent" rub.
