Well, obviously. But I assure you one thing, if you stick with this very long, one day, I suspect, you will look back and understand.

What I don't understand, is, if you do not want to hear people's views, (unless they agree with yours), why do you ask the dozens upon dozens of questions?

BC, seriously......what's so hard to understand about a deer herd that is over-abundant.....and a female deer target in front of you offering a shot? I think that's a fair question. What should the responsible hunter do when faced withthis scenario.

I'm genuinely interested in what the responsible, experienced deer hunter should do in this scenario.

I do wanna hear your POV. Just don't get upset if I ask you "Why" (you have taken that position). I don't like to be told things....I like to be taught. I'm prodding you for your reasoning behind your answer.

Well, if I want to kill that deer, I am going to fire at that deer. I have went thru stages where I desired the meat of a 50-60lb fawn. In fact, I soughtit. But then I go thru what others have and maybe felt wrong about it. Felt, the 10-15lbs of meat you get really isn't worth it, and don't do it anymore. Right now for instance, I miss bowhunting so bad, I would shoot just about anything I had a tag for. In the middle of Oct-Nov., nope, does are going to walk most of the time. What I am saying in a nutshell, is there is no wrong answer, but taking that animal's life just to manage the herd is IMO (you notice I put opinion) is just wrong. QDM just takes the natural spirt out of hunting. At that point, its kinda like ranching. I would just buy my racks off of ebay.

In the end, your the one that has to make these decisions, and whatever any of us thinks doesn't matter as long as your legal. I mean none of us pays your bills or owns your land.

I think somewhere you said you were a pork butt smoker. Me, too, I love pulled pork. If you ever tried to smoke a 10-14 lbs deer hind, you know getting that bad boy tasting good and tender and moist is a challenge. But you try smoking a 3-4lb fawn hind, and man, you might go out seeking the illusive fawn more often. :D

230-245degrees? 12-15 hours?

Man, thats good. I have a fewporkpicnics I need to cook up. Just been so windy here, its hard to keep my temp constant.

I try to stay as close to 220deg. as possible.....but I have the cheap thermometer tha came on the cooker. I suppsoe with the outside temps taken into effect......I'm getting 230-240 on the rack. I've never put a rack thermo on it. I just know MY cooker.;)

12 hrs is the key. When you reach in and pull the bone out of the butt.....it's done.;)

I have no interest in shooting a doe fawn.The only way I would shoot a doe fawn is if it had been shot or badly injured in some manner.Then I would shoot it to put it out of it's misery.If we were absolutely over run with deer then I may have a different out look.
I will honestly say for me it is an emotional thing,I don't have an interest in killing bear cubs,poults,or any other first year animal of any species.
I kill adult doe's and do my share from a management perspective.
