Like others have said it depends on a lot of factors. On a deer I would not likely shoot passed 40 yards,I commonly practice at 50 and 60 yards and am very comfortable at those distances and group well.I am on flat ground though taking as much time as I want, shooting at a target that isn't fidgiting.
I really like and prefer my shots to be 30 yards and in.

To me bowhunting isnt about max range, its about how close can I get. Usually I would pass on anything over 45 yds, unless everything was perfect. If it was a monster buck, and he couldnt be brought closer, or was on his way out, I might risk a 50 yarder. In that case Iwould anticipate a lengthy stay in my stand to ensure he bled out...unless he dropped right there.

Any day at the range where I could think about my shot, and simply wounding the animal wasnt an issue, I would take 60-65 yrds all day long.

I mostly hunt in a stand in the woods where anything over 35-40 would be obstructed anyway.

I've never shot beyond 30, but I do verywell with my 50 pin at the range. So if conditions were absolutely perfect . . .

The less yardage the better. The farthest I've ever shot anything under the perfect conditions above was a fairly large reindeer at 39. Given that I wouldn't like to shoot whitetails at anything over 30 and 100% of mine have been under 20.

I'm more impressed by someone who makes the killing shot at 5 yards than the one that does it at 50. (3-D is just the opposite but that's another game altogether...) [/quote]

The maximum I would shoot is 5 yards.

35, actually.
