What are ya'll's Backgrounds?

If you don't mind by me asking. Farm Boy? City Slicker:D? Just raised in the country?

I was raised on my grandparent's dairy farm in Ohio. This is where i learned to hunt, fish and drive w/ trailers. I road broncs though highschool and still do a little horse traineing here and there for friends. I now play college baseball and am working on a double major in Environmental Science and Biology.

I'm interested to see what kind of backgrounds everyone has!

Born and rasied on a 90 acre "farm" in the sense that we own the land, do some mild farming, but the majority is leased to a local farmer. Grew up in a hunting and fishing family, been doing it ever since. Simple as that.

I didn't grow up on a farm but I have cows and farmland all around me so I got exposed to it. I have fished ever since I can remember and started hunting seriously about 5 years ago. I am still a much much better fisherman than hunter but I love them both.

Born and raised on our 260 acre farm in beautiful Virginia. Moved to the city for two years when I transferred schools and it really made me appreaciate the outdoors a lot more, and now I am engulfed with it.

Didn't live on a farm but worked the family farm. Grew up around and on horses. Made/threw hay all my life, worked the ground, drove the tractors. Lived on a quiet street in a town of roughly 3000 at best. Graduation class had 119 people. Still live and work (Telco field) in the area but my log home is 4.5 miles out of town and in the woods. Close enough but still far enough to be exactly right. ;)

RE: What are ya'll's Backgrounds?

lived in a small town all my life...still do...but always been a farm boy at heart..

aunt and uncle own a wanna be horse farm...i started working for him when i was real young...cutting grass, weedwacking, cleaning the barn, bailing hay...whatever...my aunt knew a lady that needed a barn cleaner...i took the job...50$ every saturday to clean 8 horse stalls...she must been loaded with money cause instead of straw she bedded with wood chips..i wish she used straw, but whatever...still easy work...after i got a feel for the stalls i was out of there within 3hours or so...thats good money!!! then she moved to NC :( then i started hanging around my best friend alot...his uncle has a dairy farm...the last couple years i became closer to his uncle than i am with my own uncles...thats no joke..if/when i move away, im going to miss him and his 2 daughters and their farm more than anything else...i honestly consider them family and they consider me family...im like the son he never had...i rather spend a friday night with him chasing coon hounds than with my buddies drinkin beers and chasin girls and gettin into trouble...started off i just went out there to hunt when my buddy asked me...then i started hanging around at milking time BSing...now, i practically live there...even slept there a couple times lol...

hard to call me a farm boy being i dont technically live on a farm...but i spent more time on a farm than some "farmboys" do...ive pulled out piles of calves...helped the vet untwist stomachs...ive threw hay and straw...ive ground and mixed and bagged feed...ive pitched stalls..ive bedded stalls...ive pulled hay wagons and gravity wagons...i can drive a tractor...this spring i hope to get a little more tractor driving down...some reason i havent been able to drive any of the fullsized Deeres..i just never seem to be around when anyones doing any work in the fields...id like to get some more expirience come spring so i can put it down on the resume...might not be a true farm boy...and know i havent done and seen it all....but ive learned and done alot over the years...thats part of what i love about being out there...always something going on and something to be done and i can always learn...if nothings going on we will rebuild a tractor or work on a farm truck...night time we go coon hunting or square dancing or line dancing...(i dont square dance and just finally gave line dancing a real try a couple weeks ago though i goto the line dancing club pretty often..)

when im not at the farm, im at college for the week lol...major is Park and Resource Management...about to finish my 3rd year...certified in wildfire suppression, basic search and rescue techniques, and next year i should be going through the National Park Ranger Training program to become a law enforcement ranger in a national park...dont know if i wanna end up in a national park, but thats where i'll start off...got a couple different options for this summer..trying to get something to work out...

Grew up in and lived in the woods my entire childhood. Never drove in traffic till I moved to York, PA for college. Unfortunately since 1998 I've been living in suburbs. My heart is in the country though, thats for sure. The HS I went to in VT had a class of about 50, and the HS I graduated from in PA had about 100. I'm hoping to buy/build something in the country in the next 5 years.

RE: What are ya'll's Backgrounds?

My dad was a lettuce/just about anythinggrower, in the armpit of the southwest (Yuma, Az). Lived about 25mi outside of town, our closest neighbors were about 1/2mi away, hunted and fished just about every weekend I could remember...and even ditched quite a few days of school to go hunting or fishing.
Lots of Muleys around were we lived.Big Horn sheep north of us on the Kofa game range about 30 miles.Great dove & quail hunting. We could go dove hunting in our back yard if we wanted to.
Duck season was also great there...along the Colorado River.
Now I reside in California, but I might go back there..

RE: What are ya'll's Backgrounds?

I graduated highschool ('86) a country boy, moved to the beach the next year...surfed the east coast until 2001...bought 5 acres in the country and moved back home! Got married, have a 4 yr old daughter, and thats all she wrote!

I have 5 acres that border a dairy cattle farm on one side, and an equestrian ranch on the other. My property value has tripled in the 4 years I have owned it...so I think im gonna like this country living!

I love being able to fish in my yard ( I have a 1 1/2 acre pond stocked with bass, catfish, croppie, etc.) and sitting in my tree stand beside the pond. All of the leases that I have for hunting properties are within 10 miles from my house. You know you live in the country when it takes 20 minutes for a cop to come if you dial 911! A boy flipped his truck in front of my home and he died waiting for an ambulance!

Im also glad that we cant hunt on Sunday's...I cant stand to miss a race! NASCAR!!!

I've lived in the country all my life. Started out in a home on 3 acres. I went everyday to my great-grandpa's farm to help my dad take care of the place. I loved it there, it's where I learned everything. How to run cows, plow, disc, hay, combine. We restored a '49 B john deere when I was young. Shortly after he passed (when I was in 5th grade) we bought the farm. My dad got into farming pretty quickly. I've been around cattle, and farming my whole life. Town of 2000 people, including a prison, and graduated with 78.

This year, I made the step to college. My dad couldn't keep up with the cows, so he sold them. I'm majoring in Wildlife Biology. There is my life in a nut shell.

I grew up in a Farming Community....I worked on farms as jobs during the summer through the last couple years of High School. I lived in town with a population of 611 people. Went to school for automotive in Laramie, Wyoming. After my first couple of jobs I decided to keep that a Hobby. I then got into Welding (learned at school) and here I am. Been welding for around 3 years now.

Born and raised in Central PA. Grew up in the country, riding fourwheelers and souped up lawnmowers with a brother that helped me shoot and break everything that we could find. Left for college an hour away and came directly back to live and work in the same area. Love it here and hope to raise my own family in the same traditions that I was so fortunate to experience as a child.

I also played AAU basketball and baseball as from about 02-07, and played with/for/ and against a lot of "inner city kids and coaches. Seeing their lifestlye and what they have to endure daily also makes me realize how lucky I am to have grown up in the country and I hope to raise my family in the country too.

Raised on a 254 acre farm only 30 miles away in rural Indiana. Worked the land, mended fence, raised cattle and hogs along with crops alongside my older brother and dad. I moved to a town here in Illinois after getting married( I regret not moving her to the country). Our family farm is now rented out to a farmer and we(brother and sisters) will be selling the farm soon, probably this year. I plan on moving back into the country sometime before I die:D, just cannot beat it! I didn't start deer hunting until after I was married, thanks to my fatherinlaw:).

Farmed 450 ac. until 1995, then I went to college when I was 25 and now I teach school, live in a subdivision almost within insight of the old farm. Now there are houses, wharehouses and and shopping centers in our fields!! SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It truly makes me cry, after seeing it for 30 yrs one way and then progress or destruction depending on who you are, came and took it's toll.
