RE: The search for the right mechanical BH
ORIGINAL: MichiganWhitetails74 I Killed with cedar arrows wrapped in sinew with flint heads...deer die with a good hit... When it comes to hi tech. - I use the NAP spitfire XP's. I've never lost a deer with them ...and they always leave blood on my pants after tracking! Good Luck I like Spitfires too, but stopped using them because I could never replace the blades. Those little screws gave me fits. They ended up being a one and done head. I really like them though, and you're right about the blood trails. I never had trouble finding a deer shot with them. Then again they usually died within sight. |

ORIGINAL: Dubbya ORIGINAL: bigbulls I already told you toease you mind and justget some slick tricks. Problem solved. ![]() They fly as good as any mechanical, are 100% steel so they area heck of a lot stronger than any mechanical made or aluminum fizxed head, no flimsy blades,, No rubber bands or o-ringsto worry about, theycut huge ammounts of tissue (more than many mechanicals even). What's not to like? Do you shoot 100 grain or 125 grain heads? Cutting diameter is what gives you the huge wound channel, better blood trail, and larger wound area. I want a large area that I'm cutting compared to a small area and that's why I use a large diameter head (Rage 2 blade). Cutting surface |
RE: The search for the right mechanical BH
So what you're saying is if I had a 1/2" diameter12 blade head (which would give you 3" of cutting surface) would be better than a 2" cutting diameter, 2 blade? This would give you 3" of cut but only in a 1/2" area. A four blade head actually makes a real hole rather than a slit through the animal. |

Shultzy,
I'm gonna try and sharpen these Snuffers one more time this year and if I can't get it I'm sending the damn things off to you! :D I killed my first buck with one 20 years ago so they hold a sentimental place and I'd like to use them with the recurve because they fly like darts. My only complaint other than I can't get them any sharper than a pop tart is that they hiss in flight like no head I've ever shot. |
RE: The search for the right mechanical BH
Steve, You ought to have seen some of Holes I used to Blow through Deer with the Ol Thunderhead 180's Awesome!! The most awesome kill I ever witnessed was with that head. I shot a nice 8 point in late Rut as he was tagging a yearling doe by my stand. The sun was just setting and it was around 10 degrees. After I shot the Buck he ran pretty much straight West up a hill and I swear he was Blowing Red Steam 3 feet out both sides.
Well for a little while he was.;) Went down pretty darn quick. I've had a couple of nice Bears fell to that head also. Idefinitely prefer 3and 4 blade heads. Dan |
