Mobow - you've gotta wonder why they ever stopped selling those... The shops around here couldn't keep 'em on the shelves. Especially once word got out that they were about to be discontinued. It was a feeding frenzy.

I know people who still use them faithfully - matter of fact, I just dug through the gun cabinet last year and cleaned off all the bloody/bent/broken ones I had and gave them to an uncle of mine who used them for parts. He shoots a pretty nice buck with used and recycledpunchcutters every year, just like clockwork. LOL

I dunno what he'll ever do if he runs out. LMAO

Seriously though - I did really use those in the early 90's.Filled a lot of tags with them too. At 65 grains, those babies were smokin' fast. I had them on super-short 1916 shafts off of a huge overdraw.

I Gotta Agree! Just don't see the advantage to a Mechanical and I would say I have killed as many Deer with more kinds of mechanicals than most.

I'll be packing the new Grizz Trick in my Quiver most of next season more than likely.

If I were to use a mechanical I would more than likely go with the NAP XP Spitfire Pros. Ah the days of the Punchcutters, Puckett's Bloodtrailers, Rockets (several models), Vortex, Synpers, Spitfires, Spitfire Pros,etc.

I'm not sure how many models of Rockets I used back in the day, but the Mini Blaster 4L was one of my favorite. 4 blades, 1 3/4" cut. It was like throwing a razor edged tennis ball through a Deer. They were pretty much one shot heads though.

Reasons I don't use them anymore are flimsy blades, little screws, flimsy ferrules, rubber o-rings, and failure to open. Some mechanicals may not have all these going against them but they all have some of these problems. I just don't see the advantage to them therefore I have used fixed blades for several years.

I prefer my Blades to cut on impact and it doesn't bother me they don't have to open!;)

I Killed with cedar arrows wrapped in sinew with flint heads...deer die with a good hit...

When it comes to hi tech. - I use the NAP spitfire XP's. I've never lost a deer with them ...and they always leave blood on my pants after tracking!

If my Compound makes it into the woods this season the rage 2 blades will do wonders AGAIN for me, the Magnus 2 blade will be in the Longbow quiver! The Slick Tricks will be sitting out this season!

I don't think there is any "right" broad head. You have to choose the one that's "right" for you and your needs. Pretty much any broad head will do the job if you do yours. Some are better than others but most Will work. If your that worried about it then I suggest a fixed broad head. Tune your bow to the broad head and be done with it. Go out and practice with it and come fall you will be ready and confident.....what more can you ask?

My thoughts exactly... with a well tuned bow there is NO advantage to a mech except a larger cutting diameter... period. The ONLY advantage to a mech head would be cutting diameter, but that's less important that cutting surface in my opinion. Get some ST's and knock them down!!

Rob,

If you shoot something with a broadhead, retrieve your arrow, spin test, and sharpen or replace the blades there is nothing wrong with re-using them. I have killed more than one deer with the same head.

Why do you say that ALL broadheads are one shot and done? I sure dont think SilverFlame users stop shooting them at game after one shot if they are in good shape.

I know I have Slick Tricks that have passed through several deer.

Well freakin DUH!:D

That's like saying there's no advantage to driving a car with gas in it vs an empty one.....except the one with gas in it will actually crank and move you to your destination.

The above is not A reason to shoot a 2" cutting mechanical.....it's THE reason.[&:]
