Mean V or STS
I wondered witch one you thought might be better. I currently havea sts but was thinking about getting the Mean V because it has the mossy oak obession that matches my bow. What do you guys think?
|
RE: Mean V or STS
I went with the STS because it's more adaptable to different bows, cheaper, and great customer service.

RE: Mean V or STS
I just ordered the STS for the same reasons as GR8.
So far....nobody there's called me a dumbass, either......which is nice!:D |

RE: Mean V or STS
Im with GR* and the "ass" (JOKING JEFF) I too have the STS thats what my shop carried and thats what went on the bow! I did not know till recently thta Dan carried string suppressors! Ive seen them and they look real good. I beleive they would perform as good as the STS does same style rubber stop on them!

RE: Mean V or STS
Well, I'm happy to say that I've bought 2 suppressors from Dan (MeanV) and the first one works perfectly and the second one I had to return because I gave the wrong measurements and it did not fit. I called Dan and he said I could return it and get a refund. I was never called a "dumb ass" even though it was my error. BTW, the reports about STS have been more negative than positive i.e. the stopper blowing off as well as other string silencers.

RE: Mean V or STS
Well, if your reason is so it matches your bow go for it, but make sure your purse is in Mossy Oak too:D
Actually, I think a string suppressor custom fit to my bow would be sweet. Then even I couldn't screw up settingit up. |

RE: Mean V or STS
I went with the Meanv, mostly because of the way they look. I'm sure the STS functions fine. However, the ones that I have seen look like some kind of a strange after thought. The Meanv looks like a part of the bow! Not to mention, they work real well also.

RE: Mean V or STS
I have a Hoyt bow, so I ordered the new side mount STS. Looks cleaner when installed. I will let you know how it works when it arrives.

RE: Mean V or STS
An update would be appreciated. My 'other bow' is a Hoyt...

Jeff, You really are a piece of work![8D]Remember you pour Gas on someone and stick a match to them you might get burnt yourself;) |
RE: Mean V or STS
I know where you can get some qualityfeathers cheap but your probably not interested.

RE: Mean V or STS
Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly does a string suppressor do and why do you need one?
It's been a few years since I had a compound and I'm out of the loop ;) |
RE: Mean V or STS
I have a meanV suppressor, I liked the looks of it, and the way it fits. But whatever route you go believe me, they make a big difference.... or atleast it did in my case, i didnt have any silencers at all on my string before, i just added the suppressor and now i dont even need anything on the strings.
The adjustability to switch to different bows would be nice too, but ill probably be keeping mine a while. |

RE: Mean V or STS
If youve ever watch a bowstring in slow motion, it's crazy what they do, the suppressor stops it, thus said to be less noise, vibration, and shock.
Worked for me! http://youtube.com/watch?v=hDV1pHtI7S8 Watch the string. |

RE: Mean V or STS
Get a meanV. You cant beat the price for a dipped string suppressor. An sts will cost you the same if not more anyway. Although they are not adjustable for each bow you have they have their benifits also. Number one they arent so bulky like the sts is. they have a big shunk of sqaure metal hanging off one side of them. The meanvs are a nice size and look a lot better imo.

Get the MeanV:

RE: Mean V or STS
Joel,
A string suppressor serves a few different functions... It's a device that is usually (when applicable) attached to the rear stabilizer bushing and stretches back to make contact with the string at brace. Upon firing the bow, the suppressor serves to stop the string from going past brace (though it will obviously above or below at some point), thus enabling the shooter to wear bulkier clothing in the winter and not be as subject to "wrist slap" or, in this case, "clothing slap." Its main functionality and benefit that has garnered accolades from legions of fans is both its vibration-reducing and, more especially, its sound-dampening abilities. Some also claim a "cleaner" release as well -- the concept being that the string doesn't oscillate beyond brace at the shot and "pull" at the arrow as it tries to release itself from the string. Those proponents have often claimed picking up a few extra fps as a result of that. Now... for the question at hand. I first started using MeanV suppressors before I had any idea of who Dan was as a person. I simply thought they looked MUCH cleaner than the blocky STS version. (And I say "version" for a reason; contrary to what the company would have you believe, they do NOT have exclusive rights to the concept -- and they were NOT the originators of the concept. Heck, I've still got a much-older version of a suppressor in my home archery shop still in its package made by Saunders called the Deadly Quiet. I had one of Saunders' supressors on my very first bow when I took my first deer and turkey...) I like the idea of a custom-fit, dipped-to-match suppressor offering much cleaner aesthetics with top-notch performance and exemplary customer service. MeanV suppressors and Dan's feedback on his customer service have garnered somewhere near 30,000 responses across various internet boards -- with something like a 99.99% positive rating. I've got a MeanV on every bow I own that doesn't come from the factory with its own suppressor. |

RE: Mean V or STS
well i was going to get a meanv, but then i noticed my bow dosnt have a rear stablizer hole, so i will have to go with a front mount sts.
|
RE: Mean V or STS
I have two MeanV SS's. Neither one matches the camo on my bows but they still work great LOL :D
|
RE: Mean V or STS
I use the STS.I know a few people that use the Mean-V and are very happy with it.So what ever you want is good.:D
|
RE: Mean V or STS
I have a MeanV and wanting another to replace my STS on other bow.The allen screw is rounding off and where it bites into the shaft is getting wore also...MeanV's doesn't have that problem.I like plain black,I may paint the next one pink just to catch folks eye's...I can camo it for hunting later!:)

RE: Mean V or STS
If you have a rear bushing to mount a string suppressor to, you can make your own for a fraction of the cost. Of course it will be black so if you want camo you will need to either get it dipped or purchase a MeanV, STS or other type of suppressor already camo'd.
My Mathews has a rear bushing and all of my components are black so I've been mulling it over. I will probably make one and see if I notice any difference with the bow. All you would need to do is purchase a standard run of the mill cable guide bar. The old school type that is bent to move the cables away from the string. They can be found almost anywhere and only cost about $6.00 to $10.00. Like this: Then all you need to do is measure and cut to length. Remember to take into consideration the thickness of the rubber stop at the end. Speaking of the rubber stop, those too can be found fairly easy and they only cost about $8.00. I believe MeanV sells them for about that much. It's better to be slightly short (about 1/8in) because you can always adjust out the stop. The cable rod has a locking collar so you can adjust the length about 1/4in. After you cut it to length and slip on the rubber end (you can install a rubber jack if you like) simply mount it to the bow, adjust and voila your done...you just made your own string suppressor for about $14.00 to $18.00! |

RE: Mean V or STS
Gotta go with the custom made MeanV with the bowjax and Dan is a good man to deal with. I don't see how you can think that the STS is cheaper? A custom made one that includes shipping for the same price as a brand new STS in my neck of the woods was a no brainer.

RE: Mean V or STS
Ya a mean v sts is the way to go one of the single best things i bought for my bow and dans a great guy one of those guys that everyone gets along with unless your aarogant loud mouth
