The biggest yearling you've ever heard of?
Some of you may know....I've had a chance to hunt a high fence operation......and I got a chance to talk to one of the owners, today.
So....what's the biggest rack (inches) you've ever heard of for a yearling? |
RE: The biggest yearling you've ever heard of?
I saw on a deer ranch websitein its online "inventory" they had a 134 and some changeinch buck that was only 1 year old...forgot the name of the buck.[&:]

It was years ago, like 25 or so. Someone killed a deer that was checked by several biologist and they declared it a year and a half old 14 point.

RE: The biggest yearling you've ever heard of?
I think first we need to establish exactly what "yearling" means.. Depending on what part of the country you are in, it could be this year's fawn or it could be a 1 & 1/2 year old....
Although I technically know that a yearling is 1.5, I call fawns yearlings and call 1.5's, what they are, 1.5's. I assume you are asking what is the largest 1.5 we have ever heard of? |
RE: The biggest yearling you've ever heard of?
A 1.5 yr old IS a yearling.
|
RE: The biggest yearling you've ever heard of?
One of the guys on this site raises deer and he told me he's seen 1.5 year olds 200+ inches (pen raised). Weather its true or not thats what he said in a scoring thread in the gun forum that turned ugly.

RE: The biggest yearling you've ever heard of?
On game farms I have heard of them in the 160's.... The largest wild yearling buck that any one I know shot was a106 inch 9 point.

Seems like there was a game cam pic of a little fawn floating around here that had a little basket rack? Hey, that's a GMMAT style question, I'm claiming that one, new question posted boys..... |
RE: The biggest yearling you've ever heard of?

RE: The biggest yearling you've ever heard of?
In order to be considered a yearing, the deer should be at least one year old - othwise why the heck would we consider it a yearing? A deer that's born in the spring will not be a year old by hunting season, so that fall we call them FAWNS...
The next fall they are just over one year old, so we call them yearlings.... Some people want to make things so complicated [8D][>:]:D |
