I switched in 2007 to the montec and shot 2 deer with them. Both were pass thru shots at 20+ yards and died with in sight.

I was talking to a guy at the archery shop Saturday. He said that Montec had a problem with the design of thecast which caused them to duller that other heads. However, he also said that Montec and made some changes to the cast and they are coming out of the package super sharp now and still easy to sharpen again after they have been shot.

I shot 2 does this year, both with the Montec and had no problem finding an awesome blood trail. Of course, one deer died within 20 yards of being shot and I had no need for a blood trail. It was more of a blood pool. Other doe went about 65 yards and blew blood all over the place. Great heads

What are the reasons you have seen poor blood trails with the Montec?
Same reason as for any head; not keeping them sharp. Montecs are known for coming from the factory less than optimally sharp. I do quite a bit of work on mine when I get them out of the box but when they're done they make a scalpel look dull.
