How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
And how come you do not?
For others I guess why do you? For what is mentioned below? I use one for the purpose of keeping my hand in place even though they state more to keep your bow fromdropping after the shot. |
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I use one...just foir added support of the bow after the shot
|
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
never used one ever so would feel weird now i guess after 30 or so years
|
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I don't as of right now, but I've since change my grip, and feel the addition of one will really help with the bow falling out after the shot. If not, it always looks cool;)

I never have used one. I don't imagine I ever will.

Never have, and never dropped it either.:)One morething to get in the way.
|
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I used one for a few years. They suck in the winter w/ gloves, so I stopped using them. It's never been a problem. If you grip and form are right, the bow isn't going to jump out of your hand anyway. It'll stay there.

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
Yeh, I never used one for the 17yrs I have been bowhunting, I out one on after the season, and I just took it off, I think it may be the reason why stabilizer is working loose, and it serves no purpose for me reall, I mean I have never dropped my bow!

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I use them for years when I shot bows that would "Jump out of ones hands" with the shot, since I got my Mathews I quit using a handle strap and a stabilizer with no noticeable effect in accuracy or change in form....

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I use one just cuz..Dunno why. It's fashion-able!
Tony be sure that baby is L_O_O_S_E on your wrist it can cause torquing issues if even slightly tight. |
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I've never known any different.....just always used one.
I guess it feels a little more secure in my hand (with the strap) on several levels. |
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I have always used one, I dont know the purpose of it but I dont take if off because it would feel weird after so long.

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
Bob I think you may have just help me big time. I have been having a torking issue and last season thought it was the peaking syndrome. I remember tightening that strap up about a year ago because I was barehanded then switched back to gloves and never made the adjustment. You are the man, Thanks much.
Remember when the release came off the dloop and smack me right in the lip too. sob Jeff try it once without and let me know your thoughts? I am curious with these speed bows.thx ORIGINAL: GR8atta2d I use one just cuz..Dunno why. It's fashion-able! RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I dunno, Tony......I "think" it would make me wanna grip the handle when I drew the bow if I didn't have that strap on there. I could be wrong.
Let's put it this way......it's never cost me a shot opportunity....it's light....and I wear light gloves all season long. Not an issue, for me. Also......from stand I can let the bow kinda hang from my arm......in lieu of me having to keep a grip on the handle/grip to keep from dropping it. I've had deer all around me before.....and not been able to put my bowdownor on a hook for several minutes. In these instancesI just leave my release attached and rest the lower cam on my leg. I suppose the strap gives me a sense of security that it wouldn't fall......even if my release went off. It's just a non-issue. I'm keeping it.:) |

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
My bow weighs about 3#, why bother?
|
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I've always had one on my bow, but as far as using it? Only for the purpose GMATT mentioned. Half the time I grab my bow for a shot it's not even around my wrist because it is set loose and stays out of the way.

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
Oh ok I was just curious as my bow is a 1999 and not shooting anywhere near what you guys are shooting and was just curious if it made a big diff.

I don't. Don't have a need to.

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I've triedwrist slingsseveral times but keep taking the darn things off. I hate 'em. I used a finger sling when I wasshooting tournaments, but slings and stuff like that just gets in my way in the woods. Not to mention they look dumb and ugly. (Take that, Preacher!;))
Edit: To head off the questions, since I bet a whole lot of you never heard of finger slings... ![]() |
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
Not for me, ive tried them a few times but i just didnt see their importance, or practicality.

So there Arthur! [8D];):D |
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
Hey, Bols! Try my way of making them. Take a piece of shoelace and tie a slip knoton each end. Iwouldn't buy those high dollah slings like in the picture (about a buck-n-a-half apiece! [:-]) when they're so easy to make.

I really don't like the wristsling on my target bow but I will have to try the finger sling again. Where it bothered me the most was gripping the bow. I didn't like the feel of something on my thumb as I was holding the bow. |
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I used to use one, but when I bought my Marquis I didn't put it on because I didn't use it and plus they suck I winter or anytime you need to put gloves on. And plus if the bow does falls and that grabs it the top will swing down with incredible speed and hit the ground very hard, and if you are able to lift your arm fast enough for it not to hit the ground it will hit you.. somewere. Trust me.. I tried it.

I started with recurves, never used a strap, stabilizer, release or a peep sight...

ORIGINAL: peakrut And how come you do not? For others I guess why do you? For what is mentioned below? I use one for the purpose of keeping my hand in place even though they state more to keep your bow fromdropping after the shot. I watch too many people grabbing for their bow upon release, it has to take ill effect on the shot as the body to brain cannot do this fast enough after the release goes off so that means it's happening before the shot is off. I shoot with such a relaxed hand that if I didn't have a wrist strap on my bow, it'd go flying out in front of me, trust me, I've bounced some friends bows off the concrete and have to physically/mentally remember to hold a bow if it doesn't have a strap. The wrist strap should do nothing prior to the shot, it should be loose and only there to prevent the bow from falling after the shot. |
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
It felt uncomfortable so I never used it.

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I used them for years when I was doing lot's of tourny shooting & had them on Hunting Bow also (Recurves & Compound). I used an open grip back then & my bow definatly would take a trip without one. I mostly just Bowhunt now & grip my bow differently &loosly without a sling. I remember when the finger sling came out-I think the 1st one was a rubber type you slipped your finger & thumb into & then the braided ones came out. I also used a clicker in my tourny, Finger, Stick Bow days. My 1st release was a ledge that busted many a mouth in their day. I also remeber how they thought a ledge release & PLASTIC vanes would ruin archery. Oh how it's changed in my 52 years of Archery/bowhunting.

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I shoot more consistently without one.
|
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I use a finger sling like Arthur posted, or sometimes a wrist sling. If you are using a back tension release or implementing good follow through they are pretty much a must. The newer low recoil bows are much better, but get a true surprise release on one and see what happens.
I always tell people if they think they are not effecting the shot when they release the arrow try a back tension release or have someone else trigger the bow for you. You will be in for a big surprise. Paul |
