RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I used to use one, but when I bought my Marquis I didn't put it on because I didn't use it and plus they suck I winter or anytime you need to put gloves on. And plus if the bow does falls and that grabs it the top will swing down with incredible speed and hit the ground very hard, and if you are able to lift your arm fast enough for it not to hit the ground it will hit you.. somewere. Trust me.. I tried it.

I started with recurves, never used a strap, stabilizer, release or a peep sight...

RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
ORIGINAL: peakrut And how come you do not? For others I guess why do you? For what is mentioned below? I use one for the purpose of keeping my hand in place even though they state more to keep your bow fromdropping after the shot. I watch too many people grabbing for their bow upon release, it has to take ill effect on the shot as the body to brain cannot do this fast enough after the release goes off so that means it's happening before the shot is off. I shoot with such a relaxed hand that if I didn't have a wrist strap on my bow, it'd go flying out in front of me, trust me, I've bounced some friends bows off the concrete and have to physically/mentally remember to hold a bow if it doesn't have a strap. The wrist strap should do nothing prior to the shot, it should be loose and only there to prevent the bow from falling after the shot. |

It felt uncomfortable so I never used it.

ORIGINAL: Arthur P I've triedwrist slingsseveral times but keep taking the darn things off. I hate 'em. I used a finger sling when I wasshooting tournaments, but slings and stuff like that just gets in my way in the woods. Not to mention they look dumb and ugly. (Take that, Preacher!;)) |
RE: How many of you do not use a Bow hand strap?
I used them for years when I was doing lot's of tourny shooting & had them on Hunting Bow also (Recurves & Compound). I used an open grip back then & my bow definatly would take a trip without one. I mostly just Bowhunt now & grip my bow differently &loosly without a sling. I remember when the finger sling came out-I think the 1st one was a rubber type you slipped your finger & thumb into & then the braided ones came out. I also used a clicker in my tourny, Finger, Stick Bow days. My 1st release was a ledge that busted many a mouth in their day. I also remeber how they thought a ledge release & PLASTIC vanes would ruin archery. Oh how it's changed in my 52 years of Archery/bowhunting.

I shoot more consistently without one.

I use a finger sling like Arthur posted, or sometimes a wrist sling. If you are using a back tension release or implementing good follow through they are pretty much a must. The newer low recoil bows are much better, but get a true surprise release on one and see what happens.
I always tell people if they think they are not effecting the shot when they release the arrow try a back tension release or have someone else trigger the bow for you. You will be in for a big surprise. Paul |
