what is the top of the line bow right now?

Kevin, welcome to the forums.
Basically, what we need from you is a price range. What are you willing to spend to buy a new bow? If you can give us a price range we can give you our opinions on which brands would fit what you are willing to spend.
From there, purchasing a bow is strictly a personal choice. The next step would be to hit up the dealers in your area and get a chance to shoot the bows you are most interested in.
Another great way to check out bows is throughcompany websites. All major bow companies will have a website and should list all of the bows in theirlineup currently being produced. Most companies turn over bows on a fairly frequent rate. Some bows get face lifts and slight changes each year. It is just part of the sport of archery.
Any other questions, don't hesistate to ask.
After you select a bow, the next challenge will be how you want to accessorize your bow.

Not stupid at all one has to start somewhere. Hoyt, Bowtech, Mathews, Reflex, Bear, Darton, Elite, Martin. All have there fallowing and loyalists but i suggest you shoot as many as you can and see what feels best to YOU! This is just a list to get you started looking it doesn't include all the brands.

That depends on what your looking for, if you want quietwith little to no shock, Limbsaver Dead Zone or bowtechGeneral. If you want a fast bow, PSEX-Force, bowtech 101st or Hoyt Katera. If you want a very smooth bow try Alpine out. There are alot of good bows, shoot some andand see what you like, I did and made may chose I would tell but[X(]don't want to be pounced.

First welcome to the forums, I'm sorry your first and only post had to be this one.
Second, why the ridiculous post for your first. It might be your first here but we've seen it a thousand times. Perhaps, a thousand and one now. [&:]

OK, since nobody will give you an honest answer, I will. HOYT!!!

Doug is a smart guy... shoots lots of big deer I'm sure.... but since I shoot a Bowtech (I don't this is an example) and he shoots a Hoyt, in another 8 pages of back and forth he will be an SOB and I'll be an A-hole.... the whole thing will be a big merry go round, Rob and Christine will have to come over and take out the trash.... and all of it is subjective anyway. Nobody can ever be right or wrong on something you cannot quantify. Posts asking questions like yours are generally looked upon as attempts to stir the pot, kick the fire, and shake the hive. No offense here... just thought I'd let you know what all the fuss was about.... been a fight or three here before.... but we all collectively try and keep it to a low roar.

Delusional.
Lots of great bow brands out there these days. The ones thatseem to get the most press as high end include Hoyt, Bowtech, Martin...oh ya, and Mathews. But there's a zillion others that are more than adequate.
