The most reliable truck for bowhunting?

Andhow do youKNOW that it is?

Because the manufacturer claims it to be doesn't make it the most reliable. Because you're a loyal fan of the brand doesn't make it the most reliable. Because it cost you nothing but a set of brake pads and a muffler in the 100,000 miles you owned it might. Because it's never left you stranded anywhere especially in the woods 50 miles from civilization also might.

Vote then post reason.

EDIT: just found the links. If I were the owner of this I'd vote for it.

No Chevy? AWWWW!!!

In the South, even though they are made in the same factory, Chevy and Gmc are 2 different trucks!!

Chevy/GM

Look around your town and see how many old Chevy/GM's are still driving. Speaks for itself.

I have a 94' GMC Jimmy and have only replaced the U-Joints. Everything else is working fine.

UMMMM how does a truck come into effect to bow hunt. Hunting from a vehicle is illegal in Indiana.

RE: The most reliable truck for bowhunting?

Forums are vehicle biased just like anything else. These forums are diehard ford/chevy/dodge and Toyota/Nissan are often scouffed at. Here's why I believe Toyota.

I owned a 1996 Tacoma that was lifted, armored and all around built up. It was driven a LOT and through a LOT that most wouldn't consider putting their trucks through (blue/black level offroad trails at Paragon). It had 190,000 miles on it when I sold it in December. In that time that I owned it, I replaced a wheel bearing (mud), cat, and plug wires. Nothing else...natta. No rust, frame in perfect condition.

Have two neighbors. Both with 86 Reg cab Toyotas with over 200K on the original drivetrain, frames and bodies. All run perfectly.

My friend just sold his 94 Toyota with 255K miles on it, that was driven HARDER than mine. MUCH harder, with less regular maintanance. Nothing replaced but a clutch at 150K.

Members of our national offroad club (see signature) routinely see trucks with 200, 300, and 400K miles. And our members USE their trucks...just browse around some of the wheeling photos.

That being said, Toyota is not the only player in town. The new Checy/GMC lineup (07+) are impressive. If gas wasn't an issue, I would be driving a Titan right now. Nissan is a strong player as well, but hasn't been around (titans anyways) to establish a long term reliable reputation. Only time will tell how they do. Fact of the matter is many "domestic" autos are declining in build quality, but at the same time as Toyota climbs to the top, I fear Toyota will do the same. I'm already not fully impressed with what Toyota is doing customer service wise, and with some of the build quality of new models.

Well, I haven't owned my 07 Tundralong enough to know for sure but chances are it'll outlast a few trucks. Reason being, my dad has a 96 Tacoma that he's had for about 8 yrs and I swear it receives no more than one oil change a year. To this day all he's done to it was replace the radiator, leaf springs, and brake pads. (Radiator 'cause he ran into something, springs 'cause he overloaded the truck, pads 'cause it's a normal wear and tear item) I'm the family mechanic and the one who makes the repairs so I know this was about all that was done. That truck purrs day after day yet in my opinion is so neglected I'd call it abuse.

I would like to know where Jeep is, that would be my vote, I got a soupe up 1979 Jeep Cj9 (or 7 or 5 or something lol)
Painted in metalic blue with a lift kit, Baja wheels, the whole shabang, haven't got stuck once taking out my trail cam so far in 2 feet of standing snow here in wisconsin, i can go wherever i please. Its a little loud lol so we use a 1948 Willys jeep for dropping of hunters near their stands during bowhunting season, quiet as a ghost and reliable. My dad has a Ford and I don't think he's complaining either though. So i vote JEEP - 1

I chose toyota, because my truck is a 1994 toyota 4WD extend cab pick-up. Has the 2.4L 4-cyl. engine with a 5-speed manual tansm. 167,000+. My mom bought it brand new and gave it to me when she got her '03 tacoma. It still has origanal everything have only replaced pads and brake lines. I did replace the rims because i bent a couple while 4-wheelin with some friends. This truck has never failed to start and with those Cooper STT's its a bear to get it stuck too!!!:DHave managed a couple times though!!!

I've got a '97 Toyota T-100 with 140K miles. All I've had to replacebesides tires and brake padshas been the battery(twice) andone leaky valve cover gasket. It's been the best truck I've ever owned. It'll probably be an antique before it gets broke in good. ;)

Currently my GMC has been good to me, but I did have to replace the tranny.[&:]

I have a feeling I will be a Ford convert some time between this summer and next. I LOVE the body style of 04-06 F-150s. IDK why, but they sure are sharp looking.

RE: The most reliable truck for bowhunting?

I voted for Chevy/GMC and here is why. I know countless numbers of people that have had their chevy trucks over 300,000miles. My first truck was a GMC that had 300,000 miles on it when i bought it. I was 16 and it was cheap, but man did that truck have life left in it. I put another 50,000 miles on it atleast until i got rear ended by a tow truck. The frame was bent and the bed was crinkled quite a bit, but I drove it 10miles home from the tow company after being wrecked. It just didn want to give up. My dad's GMC sierra has about 225,000 miles on it and is still going strong. I will tell you straight up that I will never buy a Ford because I think they are cheaply built and crap, but I think a lot of chevy people will say the same. But I will also say that there are numerous amounts of Toyotas out there that have amazing lifespans. I think they are a great truck, and if the new ones are built anything like the old ones they are going to be aaround for a long time.

FORDS ONLY...for my hunting truck (F-350) and for my plumbing business. I get more mileage per dollar spent on my fleet than any other truck..we used to have Dodges that were pretty good, and with Chevys we had trouble keeping trannys working. I had to stock transmissions for my Chevys. I have 3 Ford trucks that are creeping up on 300,000 with no major problems. These trucks do 150-200 miles a day.

lol, sounds good!;)I have a two horse trailer, my Chey light 3/4 tin350 gas does a OK job. When I pulled my father in laws 4 horse trailer this year I got horriable gas miliage. I can see myself getting a nice diesel on the road. We need to hook up one of these years and put the smack down on some Idaho bulls.

I currently drive an 04F350 but would drive any truck really, as long as it could fit my bow, tree stand and deer in it [8D]. Ive had several drag race car that have always been Chevys. Im not manufacturer biased lol.

I'm a Ford guy, have been and always will be! I own a 86 3/4 ton with a healthy 351 Windsor in it. You don't get a much better sound then a Ford with headers and dual exhaust! Truck has 200,000 miles on it, yes its tired but this truck has been through hell and back over and over! When I eventually do get the penny's for a new truck it will be a Ford again without a dought, not sure if it will be a Diesel or gas though. I own a milk hauling business and the diesel price is kicking my but so a gas motor could be in the future for me in my new pickup, its just gotta be powerful.

Chevy, 2002 with 140,000+ miles and pull a 7000 lb boat every summer. Only had to replace a starter, plugs/wires and oxygen sensor.

I would've said the same thing before I bought this Toyota. But... I have to buy vehicles like I buy boots. Gotta try them on to see if they fit.

When I sat behind the wheel in a Fordext cabwith the seat all the way back, my knees were against the dash. When I sat in a Chevy, my head was against the ceiling. Same in GMC, of course. Dodge... [:'(]Couldn't slather enough grease on my buns to get into a Nissan. The T-100 was the only pickup I could get into and be comfortable.

Now Toyota is putting knee airbags in all their new vehicles, and they won't remove the blasted things,so the legroom is gone. Looking to buy a new primary vehicle, either a crossover SUV or minivan and Toyota is off the list. Right now I'm down to a Dodge Grand Caravan or Nissan Murano. Those are the only two I've been able to get into comfortably. The buttheads are designing cars and trucks for smurfs these days. [>:]

If you're talking strictly gas engines then you need totest drivea new Tundra 5.7 V8. 381hp 401tq 0-60 in low 6, quarter mile in 14.6 sec. - I think the next quickest full sized truck is the Titan which comes in at 15.2 sec. The dodge hemi is 15.3 iirc.

WOW, the complaint is usually the other way around, I'm surprised. If you want more room in a pick-up, try the 07+ Tundra crew max. It has rear seats that can recline as well as move front and back just like the front seats. I'm not even sure if there's anything else on the market like it.

I don't suppose anyone took the time to watch the videos huh? For those who did, simply amazing huh? It's hard to believe that truck survived being drowned by the tide then being on top of a 14 story building when they used dynamite to send the building crashing down.

RE: The most reliable truck for bowhunting?

I would say Toyota, either the Tacoma or Tundra. I've owned a '95, '02 Tacomas, my current truck is a '05 Tacoma. With the blessing of GOD I never had any problems with any of them. If gas prices where lower I was thinking of trading in for a Tundra, but that isn't happening. I had a '95 Chevy brought itbrand new, nothing but problems Chevy didn't want to fix it, so at the time under the LEMON LAW of NJ I had them, and wanted and got my money back. I did own breifly a '05 Ford F-150, great truck but it loved to eat gas, that is when I went back to Toyota. Lets face it, with the cost of trucks, gas, and everything else, a new truck is a investment that you want to get your hard earn $$$$$ from. So that is why I choose Toyota

These are the pickups/suv's Ive owned in the last 9 yrs and after haveing these the 08 Ford seems to be the best for my life style.Boating, hunting, atving and camping....The rams were nice but the suburban was more roomie w/smoother ride, the dakota and toyota were both nice, the toyota was real nice if you wernt going to pull big or heavy trailers and the 08 Ford has lots of room front and back,so far it pulls great(22ft,26ft pontoon, alum trophy 195,stratos 386fx and a stenza 204)all big boats/pontoons and the 5.4 averaged 14-15 mpg with all on highway.
So far the 08 ford has been the best all the way around for ME.......
95 Dakota 4x4
99 1500 ram 4x4
99 suburban 4x4
99 1500 ram 4x4
01 suburban 4x4
07 Toyota double cab 4x4 longbox
08 Ford F150 xlt Supercrew cab 4x4 w/5.5 box

I have had Chevy's & Ford trucks, but for bow hunting...I will stick with my current Jeep Cherokee.

It will go anywhere with confidence, I can keep my gear inside safe and warm, I have camped in it for a week with temperatures in single digits, it will carry five passengers with gear and tow my trailered 4 wheeler behind with ease.
