Florida deer are small?!
Florida is not known for our "big" bucks, but we are capable of growing some good ones if the are given the time. Here's a picture of a couple respectable bucks anywhere. They were killed on the Highlands/Polk County line. (central FL)

Very nice strut. I was wondering, I haven't hunted in many years other than birds. Myself and my 13 year old son have just gottten into archery. Can you give me any help on places other than green swamp. I hear horror stories about that place

Those are nice deer. I live in South Florida and it is hard to find a deer of that caliber here. I do most of my hunting in my hometown in Pennsylvania. Too many hunters in too little land here. Nice deer though.

i dont see why Florida couldent get bucks like texas, same body sizes and how much more food could texas have. Just seems like those kind of deer are extremely rare in non managed areas in FL.

My buddy killed a nice buck in Florida. But the body sizes are what get me. What did those two deer dress?
My buddies was 90 lbs and looked like a mature buck.
One was just over 150, the other 170. I shot an 8pt in a local WMA that was 175. Last year there were 5 bucks taken there over 150, the largest being 198. That's on the hoof. We do get some good weights, problem is they usually don't live long enough. Florida allows 2 bucks a day all season. WMA's have there own limits, they varie. Both these bucks were 3 yrs. old. Could have gotten even bigger. FL is supposed to change their managment plan next year, implementing a stricker bag limit and antler restriction depending on location in FL. Hopefully they will! One antler 5" is the current legal buck!
