What do rounded tine tips mean?

I have a 144" that I shot many years ago with my 270. I guess him to be 3 1/2 yrs old. The tips of his tines are sharp and pointed.

I have a another buck that I shot this year with my bow that I just got back from the taxi. I guessed him to be 4 1/2. Now I'm reconsideringthat he might be olderafter a conversation I had with a fellow employee. He said rounded tips mean that the deer is passed prime. Prime is about 6 yrs right? I know nothing of this. Does anyone?

Are you talkin acorn tips, where they mushroom back down torward the tine? Similar to a bullet after flight?

If so, those are neat looking deer, but I think i read in D&DH mag that it is just another abnormality, kinda like a droptine or kicker point. They seem to be more rare though, because I hardly ever see pics of deer with acorn tips.

i almost shot one this fall! he was a 4.5 im pretty sure, but deffinitely met my standards. he was at least a 140" deer. if i would have cleared the shooting lane 10 yards further i woulda killed him. very neat to see him

No, not acorn tips. These tips are rounded justlike your fingertips. There's no point to any of them.

hmmm, makes sense to be an older deer, but maybe just variety to the racks? IDK man.[&:] I have noticed that it makes the racks look more massive when they have the old rounded tips.

Also, the distance between the bases where the browtines start are a whole inch wider on the rounded tips buck. Would this suggest he is much older?

He also has an H1 mass of 5" whereas the other is only about 4 1/4. Well they did come out of different habitats so I guess that really don't mean much.
